The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) is now reviewing updated proposals to construct an Education and Welcome Center at Brooklyn’s historic Green-Wood Cemetery in Greenwood Heights. The project includes restoration of the Weir Greenhouse, a landmarked Victorian building, and the construction of a new L-shaped building.
Construction is now complete on The Fountains, a six-building affordable housing complex in East New York, Brooklyn. Developed by Long Island-based Arker Companies, which purchased the site for $10 million following a competitive request for proposal process facilitated by the Empire State Development Corporation, the development yields 1,163 affordable homes, commercial space, and a new public plaza.
Permits have been filed for a seven-story mixed-use building at 546 Saratoga Avenue in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Located between Pitkin and Sutter Avenues, the interior 4,000-square-foot lot is three blocks north of the Saratoga Avenue subway station, serviced by the 2, 3, and 4 trains. Fazle Abbas Devjiyani is listed as the owner behind the applications.
The affordable housing lottery has launched for 567 Ocean Parkway, an eight-story residential building in Kensington, Brooklyn. Designed by Asher Hershkowitz Architect and developed by Sam Klein under the Ocean Parkway Apartments LLC, the structure yields 35 residences. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 11 units for residents at 130 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $72,000 to $167,570.
Façade installation is getting closer to completion on 227 West Street, a two-tower residential development in the 22-acre Greenpoint Landing development along the East River in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Designed by OMA and Beyer Blinder Belle and developed by Brookfield Property Partners and Park Tower Group, the 30- and 40-story towers will yield 745 rental units, with 30 percent planned as “income-targeted” apartments, marketed in accordance with the Affordable Housing New York program. James Corner Field Operations is the landscape architect, DeSimone Consulting Engineers is the structural engineer, Thornton Tomasetti is the façade consultant, and Highbury Concrete is responsible for building the 450- and 351-foot tall reinforced concrete superstructures, located off the corner of Eagle and West Streets.
