Permits Filed for 55 Flatbush Avenue Ext., Downtown Brooklyn

Most new developments comprising the Downtown Brooklyn boom are residential, but a sprinkling of commercial infill has also been occurring, and today, applications have been filed for a combination hotel and house of worship. Located at 55 Flatbush Avenue Ext., the plans seem somewhat irregular, and the hotel will actually occupy the lower floors of the building, with 71 rooms spanning the first 11 floors. The house of worship will be located on floors 12 through 16. Within the building’s 43,220 square feet of construction area, the hotel will total 21,541 square feet, and the community facility, 8,082 square feet. Gerald Caliendo is the architect of record, Jack Suratwala of Flatbush Hospitality LLC is listed as the developer, and the lot is already vacant.


100 Union Avenue

Updated Permits Filed for 100 Union Avenue, Broadway Triangle, Williamsburg

Two years ago, YIMBY reported on initial building applications for 100 Union Avenue, on the corner of Middleton Street, in Williamsburg’s Broadway Triangle section. Now, the site has updated filings, revealing a switch from majority residential to mostly commercial use, with new plans submitted to the DOB by architect Walter J. Hollien superseding the originals by Aufgang Architects. The project will have a total construction area of 62,464 square feet, including a 38-car garage. Besides parking, there will be 26,321 square feet of office space on the first through fourth floors, and 9,173 square feet of residential space above that, divided amongst full-floor units on floors five, six, and seven. Isaac Feuerwerger of 100 Union Holding LLC is listed as the developer.

A modest block in Brooklyn’s Midwood neighborhood is about to see a moderately-sized infill development, at 1615 Cedar Street. The application was submitted to the Department of Buildings for two lots spanning 1613-1615 Cedar, and will be built under quality housing guidelines. Alix C. Mitchell of Cityscape Consulting LTD. is the architect of record, and the all-residential structure will total eight floors and 15,738 square feet, to be divided amongst 17 units, likely rental apartments.
