Construction has reached the halfway mark on 1491-1493 First Avenue, a 35-story residential building on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by Hill West Architects and developed by Carmel Partners, which purchased the property from Robert Chou for $73.5 million in early 2022, the 404-foot-tall structure will yield 206 condominium units, 7,120 square feet of ground-floor retail space, and a cellar level. CP VII 78th Street Owner is the owner and Carmel Construction East is the general contractor for the project, which is located at the southwestern corner of First Avenue and East 78th Street.

At number eight on our year-end countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is 43-30 24th Street, a 731-foot-tall residential skyscraper in Long Island City, Queens. Designed by Hill West Architects and developed by Carmel Partners, the 66-story structure will yield 921 units with an average scope of 910 square feet, as well as 17,400 square feet of ground-retail space. Carmel Construction East is the general contractor for project, which is bound by 43rd Avenue to the north, 44th Road to the south, 24th Street to the east, and 23rd Street to the west.

Carmel Partners landed a $233 million loan to complete a 17-story rental building at 54 Crown Street in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Designed by Hill West Architects, the structure will contain 569 apartments, 182 enclosed parking spaces, around 7,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space, and a 1,500-square-foot community facility.

Excavation is underway at 1491-1493 First Avenue, the site of an upcoming 24-story residential building on the border of Lenox Hill and Yorkville on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by Hill West Architects and developed by Carmel Partners, which purchased the property for $73.5 million in early 2022 from local developer Robert Chou. Previous figures put the height and floor count at 209 feet tall and 24 stories, though a new rendering spotted on site shows a much taller revision. It was last reported that there will be 94 condominium units with an average scope of around 1,900 square feet, 7,120 square feet of ground-floor retail space, and a cellar level.
