15 Beekman Street Begins Ascent in the Financial District, Manhattan

Construction is rising on 15 Beekman Street, Pace University’s new 27-story expansion in the Financial District. Designed by Manish Chadha of Ismael Leyva Architects and developed by SL Green Realty, the 338-foot-tall tower will yield 213,084 square feet with classrooms, dorm rooms, a dining facility, a library, and a learning center. New Line Structures & Development is the general contractor for the property, which is alternately addressed as 126-132 Nassau Street and is located at the corner of Beekman and Nassau Streets.

FIT’s New Academic Building Rises at 220 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan

Construction is rising on the Fashion Institute of Technology‘s New Academic Building, a ten-story structure at 220 West 28th Street in the Garment District of Chelsea. Designed by SHoP Architects, the 110,000-square-foot facility will yield new classrooms, administrative offices, review and exhibition spaces, and a student quad illuminated by skylights. EE Cruz & Company Inc. is the general contractor for the Midtown project, which is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, within walking distance of Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, and Moynihan Train Hall. The New Academic Building is aiming for LEED Gold certification upon completion.

YIMBY Reveals Penthouse Conversion Atop Candela’s 360 Central Park West, On Manhattan’s Upper West Side

YIMBY got a rare, private look at a unique new penthouse atop 360 Central Park West, an early 20th century building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Originally designed by Rosario Candela in 1929, the upper floors and interiors are now being converted and meticulously transformed into a spacious new condominium duplex designed by CetraRuddy Architecture. Located at the crossroads of Central Park West and 96th Street, the full-service prewar building is the only condominium on Central Park West that bears the prestigious Candela imprimatur.

450 Eleventh Avenue’s Façade Installation Resumes in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

Façade work has resumed on 450 Eleventh Avenue, a 51-story Aloft Hotel in Hudson Yards. Designed by DSM Design Group and developed by Marx Development Group, the 642-foot-tall skyscraper will yield 379 guest rooms as well as a business center, a ballroom, and a fourth-floor restaurant and bar with an outdoor terrace overlooking the transforming neighborhood. Atria Builders is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the corner of West 37th Street and Eleventh Avenue, directly across from the Jacob K. Javits Center.

Palace Theatre Completes 30-Foot Lift Within TSX Broadway, at 1568 Broadway in Times Square, Manhattan

Construction on TSX Broadway has reached a significant milestone with the completion of the historic Palace Theatre’s lift to its new position 30 feet above street level within the podium of the 47-story Times Square hotel tower. The engineering challenge was overseen by Urban Foundation and Engineering and used a system of 34 hydraulic jacks to hoist the 14-million-pound venue at a speed of about a quarter of an inch per hour over the span of four months. Work will now commence on PBDW Architects‘ restoration of the theater, whose new elevated position will make way for 100,000 square feet of retail space at the base of the structure.

555 Greenwich Tops Out in Hudson Square, Manhattan

Construction has topped out on 555 Greenwich, a 16-story commercial building in Hudson Square, Manhattan. Designed by COOKFOX Architects and developed by the joint venture Hudson Square Properties, which includes Trinity Church Wall Street, Hines, and Norges Bank Investment Management, the 270,000-square-foot structure connects on nearly every floor to the adjacent 345 Hudson Street via a horizontal overbuild for a total of 715,000 square feet of leasable office space, with floor plates up to 87,000 square feet each. Tishman Construction is the contractor for the property, which is located on a rectangular plot of land bound by Greenwich Street to the west, Charlton Street to the south, and King Street to the north.

Excavations, Foundations Progress at 425 Summit Avenue in Jersey City, New Jersey

Below-grade work is progressing at 425 Summit Avenue, the site of a 26-story mixed-use tower in the Journal Square neighborhood of Jersey City. Designed by Marchetto Higgins Stieve and developed by Spitzer Enterprises, the 356,000-square-foot structure will yield 390 residential units, around 3,800 square feet of ground-floor retail space, 3,660 square feet of amenities, and on-site parking for 51 vehicles. ZDG is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the corner of Summit and Sip Avenues, a short walk from the Journal Square PATH station.

JPMorgan Chase Supertall Continues Ascent at 270 Park Avenue in Midtown East, Manhattan

Construction is continuing to ascend on 270 Park Avenue, JPMorgan Chase‘s new 60-story supertall headquarters in Midtown East. Designed by Norman Foster of Foster + Partners and developed by Tishman Speyer, the 1,388-foot-tall skyscraper will yield 2.5 million square feet of office space and will set the record for the tallest New York City building to be fully powered by a hydroelectric power plant. 270 Park Avenue is rising on a full-block parcel bound by Park Avenue to the east, Madison Avenue to the west, East 47th Street to the south, and East 48th Street to the north.

413 Summit Avenue Climbs Beyond Halfway Mark in Jersey City, New Jersey

Construction has passed the halfway mark on 413 Summit Avenue, a 19-story residential tower in the Journal Square section of Jersey City. Designed by Uforma and developed by Titanium Realty Group, the 125,000-square-foot structure will yield 148 units in studio to two-bedroom layouts, as well as 4,900 square feet of ground-floor retail space and on-site parking for 16 vehicles. The project is located on a plot between Sip Avenue to the north and Newkirk Street to the south, a short walk from the Journal Square PATH station with access to downtown Jersey City, the World Trade Center, Newport, Hoboken, Midtown, and Newark Penn Station.

Frank J. Guarini Justice Complex Rises at 595 Newark Avenue in Jersey City

Construction is rising on the Frank J. Guarini Justice Complex, a massive new government building at 595 Newark Avenue in the Journal Square neighborhood of Jersey City, New Jersey. Designed by bridging architect Rafael Vinoly and design-builder Terminal Construction Corporation, the five-story structure will yield 24 courtrooms, jury assembly spaces, and new offices for the Hudson County prosecutor, the surrogate, and the sheriff, among others. The $345 million development will also house a 75-seat public food court, a self-help law library, a children’s play area, training spaces, and a 459-space parking garage. MAST Construction Services Inc. is the general contractor for the facility, which is rising from an extensive plot bound by Central Avenue to the west, Route 139 to the north, Oakland Avenue to the east, and Newark Avenue to the south. The developers are aiming for LEED Silver certification.
