Three-Tower Complex Rises at 470-490 Kent Avenue in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Construction is rising on 470-490 Kent Avenue, a three-tower residential complex along the East River waterfront in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Brooklyn-based Brandon Haw Architecture LLP with Hill West Architects as the executive architect of record and developed by Naftali Group and Access Industries, the development will span 645,000 square feet and yield 607 units, including 89 condominiums, as well as 19,000 square feet of commercial space and a suite of amenities. New Line Structures & Development LLC is the general contractor for the project, which occupies a 4-acre plot bound by South 10th Street to the north, Division Avenue to the south, Kent Avenue to the east, and Wallabout Channel to the west.

Below-Grade Work Progresses at 111 Washington Street in Manhattan’s Financial District

The ninth-tallest building on our year-end construction countdown is 111 Washington Street, a 712-foot-tall residential skyscraper in Manhattan’s Financial District. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Carlisle New York Apartments and Grubb Properties, which closed on a $48 million loan for the project over the summer, the 64-story structure will span 326,221 square feet and yield 462 residential units, 7,000 square feet of commercial space, and a 60-foot-long rear yard. Consigli Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is alternately addressed as 8 Carlisle Street and located at the corner of Washington and Carlisle Streets.

Exterior Work Nears Completion on Aloft Hotel at 450 Eleventh Avenue in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

Leading off the top ten on our annual countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is 450 Eleventh Avenue, a 642-foot-tall Aloft Hotel in Hudson Yards. Designed by DSM Design Group and developed by Marx Development Group, the 51-story skyscraper will yield 379 guest rooms and amenities including a business center, a ballroom, and a fourth-floor restaurant with a bar and outdoor terrace. Atria Builders is the general contractor for the project, which is located at the corner of West 37th Street and Eleventh Avenue, directly across from the Jacob K. Javits Center.

The 11th-tallest building on our year-end construction countdown is 98 DeKalb Avenue, a 610-foot-tall residential skyscraper rising in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Designed by SLCE Architects and developed by Rockrose Development, the 49-story structure will span 418,092 square feet and yield 609 residential units and 3,775 square feet of commercial space. 180 Ashland GC LLC is the general contractor for the project, which is alternately addressed as 180 Ashland Place and located at the corner of DeKalb Avenue and Ashland Place.

The Brook Begins Ascent at 589 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn

At number 12 on our year-end countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is The Brook, a 575-foot-tall residential skyscraper at 589 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed by Beyer Blinder Belle and developed by Witkoff Group and Apollo Global Management, the 51-story structure will span 557,973 square feet and yield 591 rental units with an average scope of 827 square feet, with 30 percent of the inventory reserved for affordable housing, as well as 68,693 square feet of retail space, a cellar level, and two floors of recreational and sports amenities. Bonetti Kozerski is the interior designer and Suffolk Construction is the general contractor for the project, which is bound by DeKalb Avenue to the north, Fulton Street to the south, Flatbush Avenue diagonally to the east, and Bond Street to the west.
