Façade Work Continues on the Ritz Carlton Hotel at 1185 Broadway in NoMad

Façade work is getting closer to completion on the Ritz Carlton Hotel at 1185 Broadway, a 580-foot-tall skyscraper in NoMad and number 27 on our countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in the city. Designed by Rafael Vinoly and developed by Marriott, Ritz Carlton Hotels, and Flag Luxury Properties, the 40-story tower will yield 150,000 square feet and 250 guest rooms. The project is located at the intersection of Broadway and West 28th Street.

Pelli Clarke Pelli’s 555 West 38th Street Rapidly Ascends in Hudson Yards

Construction passes the halfway mark at 555 West 38th Street, a 570-foot-tall residential skyscraper in Hudson Yards and number 29 on our countdown of the tallest construction projects in New York. Designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects and developed by Rockrose with SLCE as the architect of record, the 52-story project will yield 598 rental units. The property is located along Eleventh Avenue between West 38th Street and West 39th Street, directly across from the Jacob K. Javits Center.

Ornamental Elements Installed on Nearly Finished Turkevi Center at 821 First Avenue in Turtle Bay

Number 30 on our countdown of the tallest projects under construction in New York is the Turkevi Center, a 563-foot-tall mixed-use skyscraper at 821 First Avenue in the Midtown East neighborhood of Turtle Bay. Designed by Perkins Eastman, the 35-story tower will serve as the consulate for the Republic of Turkey.

Excavation Work Continues for BIG’s 3 West 29th Street in NoMad

Once again, we’re counting down the final days of the year with a list of the 31 tallest skyscrapers under construction across the New York metropolitan region. The first project on the list is 3 West 29th Street, a 551-foot-tall, 34-story office tower in NoMad. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group for HFZ Capital Group and formerly known as 29th & 5th, the project will bring nearly 300,000 square feet of newly built space to the expanding neighborhood. The site is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, almost directly in line with the Empire State Building. Pavarini McGovern, LLC is the general contractor for the development.

1100 Avenue Of The Americas’ New Glass Façade Installation Progressing in Midtown

Work is progressing on the re-cladding of 1100 Avenue of the Americas, a 15-story office building at the corner of West 42nd Street and Sixth Avenue in Midtown. Designed by MdeAS Architects for Brookfield Properties, the project involves an interior renovation and installation of a modern, transparent glass façade on the 386,190-square-foot structure. AECOM Tishman is the general contractor for the project, which is located across from the northern corner of Bryant Park and to the east of COOKFOX‘s One Bryant Park.

New Renderings Reveal 39-Story Reclad of 660 Fifth Avenue, in Midtown

YIMBY has a new batch of renderings that depict a full re-cladding of the 39-story 660 Fifth Avenue, a commercial building located between West 52nd Street and West 53rd Street. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Brookfield Properties, the $400 million project includes a 21st century facelift as well as the renovation of 1.5 million square feet of office space. Work is planned to commence once the ten remaining leases are completed and tenants vacate, some 12 to 18 months from now, as reported in a previous Wall Street Journal story.

1059 Third Avenue’s Façade Continues Installation on the Upper East Side

Façade installation is moving along at 1059 Third Avenue, a 481-foot-tall mixed-use tower on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by Manuel Glas Architects for Real Estate Inverlad and Third Palm Capital, the slender 30-story structure is located between 62nd Street and 63rd Street and will yield a total of 127,000 square feet of newly built space. The property will contain 38 condominiums spread across 103,900 square feet, averaging around 2,740 square feet apiece.

Ten Questions With 25 Park Row and L+M Development’s Tell Metzger, on Neo Art Deco, Neighborhood Retail, and More

Exterior work is now fully complete at 25 Park Row, a 702-foot-tall mixed-use skyscraper in the Financial District, and what had been an active project on YIMBY’s annual December countdown list the past few years. Designed by COOKFOX Architects and developed by J&R Music World’s Friedman family and L+M Development Partners, the 50-story reinforced concrete structure contains a total of 110 residences. YIMBY recently spoke with L+M’s Tell Metzger about the rise of the new tower, the evolution of the surrounding neighborhood, and the changing styles of contemporary residential high-rise design.

Facade of UAE’s Permanent Mission Wraps Up at 315 East 46th Street in Turtle Bay

Installation of the stone and glass cladding is complete at 315 East 46th Street, the new nine-story home of the Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nation in Turtle Bay, Midtown East. Designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill, developed by Fisher Brothers, and erected by Plaza Construction, the 145-foot-tall structure is now almost fully finished.

Renderings and New Details Revealed for Macklowe’s Tower Fifth, in Midtown

Though it appears that demolition preparations have been put on hold for Tower Fifth, a proposed 1,556-foot-tall office skyscraper by Macklowe Properties, a new batch of renderings offers greater detail on the structure, which would become New York City’s tallest by roof height. Gensler is speculated to be the designer of the supertall project, which is located along East 51st Street between Madison Avenue and Fifth Avenue, directly to the north of St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
