Stone Façades Near Completion on Beckford House and Tower, on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Two residential buildings on Manhattan’s Upper East Side are steadily progressing toward completion. Beckford House, located at 301 East 81st Street, also addressed as 1562 Second Avenue, and Beckford Tower at 301 East 80th Street are both topped out and installation of their brick and stone façades is nearly finished. Located in the neighborhood of Yorkville, the projects are designed by Studio Sofield and SLCE Architects and developed by Icon Realty ManagementCM & Associates is in charge of construction management.

YIMBY Scopes Sunset Views From 111 West 57th Street in Midtown

YIMBY went to check out the views from the 75th floor of SHoP Architects111 West 57th Street. The world’s most slender building has nearly perfectly centered views of Central Park to the north, and clear views of the Empire State Building down to One World Trade Center to the south. JDS DevelopmentProperty Markets Group, and Spruce Capital Partners are developing the 1,428-foot-tall residential skyscraper, which has a height-to-width ratio of 24:1. A total of 46 condominiums will be created and marketed by Douglas Elliman. Studio Sofield is the interior designer.

Exterior Work Nears Completion on Morris Adjmi Architects’s 520 West 20th Street in Chelsea

The exterior of The Warehouse, aka 520 West 20th Street, is getting closer to completion in West Chelsea. Designed by Morris Adjmi Architects and developed by Elijah Equities, the mixed-use office development is located close to the High Line between West 19th Street and West 20th Street. The project features the restored 50-foot-tall brick façade of a former industrial building topped by a new suspended and cantilevering steel structure that brings the total height to 105 feet.

Excavation Begins for Bjarke Ingel’s Office Tower at 3 West 29th Street in NoMad

Excavation and foundation work on 29th & 5th, Bjarke Ingels Group‘s proposed skyscraper at 3 West 29th Street, gets deeper below the streets of NoMad. A number of excavators and piling machines are actively digging and inserting long metal pilings into the earth at the site, which is just five blocks south of the Empire State Building and almost on the centerline of the 88-year-old Art Deco icon. BIG’s project is being developed by HFZ Capital Group and is slated to rise 551 feet tall and 34 stories.

Installation Continues on Sculptural Windows at Thomas Heatherwick’s Lantern House in Chelsea

Installation of the sculptural windows on Thomas Heatherwick‘s Highline residential project Lantern House is moving along at 515 West 18th Street in Chelsea. Almost all of the bulbous windows are in place on the shorter ten-story structure, with only the portion behind the exterior mechanical hoist awaiting completion. Meanwhile, the windows are gradually ascending the taller 21-story reinforced concrete structure between the perimeter of hand-laid brick walls.
