Excavation Set to Begin for Pelli Clarke Pelli-Designed Skyscraper at 555 West 38th Street in Hudson Yards

Work is set to begin at 555 West 38th Street, the site of a 52-story residential skyscraper designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects. Located to the north of the first phase of Hudson Yards along Eleventh Avenue, the property sits directly across from the new expansion of the Jacob K. Javits Center and a couple streets south of the Lincoln Tunnel entrance. Machinery is on site in preparation for the excavation of the asphalt-covered lot to make way for the 570-foot-tall tower. Rockrose is the developer of the project, which will contain 598 rental units.

The first residential project in New York City by Thomas Heatherwick is making swift progress at 515 West 18th Street in Chelsea. The curtain wall of bulging, two-story windows on the shorter, ten-story building is nearly complete, while the façade of the taller, 22-story reinforced concrete structure is now starting on the second floor. The topped-out buildings straddle the High Line and will become an eye-catching addition to the neighborhood for residents and tourists alike. The project is located between Tenth Avenue and Eleventh Avenue, and is being developed by Related Companies.

Ultra-Contemporary Redesign Revealed for 450 Eleventh Avenue in Hudson Yards

A new rendering has been released for 450 Eleventh Avenue, a 487-foot-tall hotel tower by Marx Development Groups in Hudson Yards. The redesign appears to be a much taller and features a more lively architectural scheme than the previous rendering from last month. Designed by DSM Design Group, the structure will contain a 531-room hotel from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.

Wavy Curtain Wall of Jeanne Gang’s 11 Hoyt Nears Completion in Downtown Brooklyn

Jeanne Gang’s 620-foot-tall, 57-story skyscraper at 11 Hoyt Street in Downtown Brooklyn is almost fully wrapped in its signature wavy curtain wall. The bright precast façade and large, square glass windows have only two floors remaining before the dynamic, rippling appearance of the cladding is fully realized. Tishman Speyer is the developer and Hill West is the architect of record for the Studio Gang-designed residential project. Edmund Hollander of Hollander Design is in charge of the landscaping for the outdoor green space above the motor courtyard and podium section.

Stone Façade of Bjarke Ingels’ The XI Seen Climbing Above Eleventh Avenue in Chelsea

The stone façade has begun to climb up the twisting curtain walls The XI, a pair of towers designed by Bjarke Ingels of Bjarke Ingels Group in Chelsea. One of the most noticeable construction projects along the High Line, the 36- and 26-story reinforced concrete towers, which topped out in March, will soon be home to condominiums and a 137-room Six Senses Hotel Resorts Spas, the first location in the United States. Eighty-seven of the residential units will be designed by Gilles & Boissier, while 136 will be designed by Gabellini Sheppard. Prices will range from $2,575,000 to $14,500,000.
