Central Park Tower, Country’s Tallest Building Under Construction, Officially Reaches Supertall Territory

Central Park Tower is finally starting to stick out in Manhattan’s skyline. The building, located at 217 West 57^th Street, has been obscured up until now by its immediate neighbor and the near-supertall tower, 220 Central Park South. Most significant to this update is CPT is finally reaching supertall status, i.e. 984 feet (300m) above ground. Extell Development Company and the Shanghai Municipal Investment Group are behind the project.

The gradual redevelopment of Harlem’s 125^th Street corridor isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Construction is starting to rise above ground level for a 26-story hotel and 25-story residential tower at 233 West 125^th Street. The project is best known for its connection with the Victoria Theater, which will be restored and integrated with the Marriott. The Lam Group is the developer.

YIMBY Tours 325 Kent Avenue As Domino Park’s Public Opening Set for June 10th

As construction continues on one of the city’s largest waterfront developments, YIMBY took a tour of 325 Kent Avenue, ahead of Domino Park’s opening on June 10^th. Once it opens, the park is expected to be the largest public space in the Five Boroughs to debut in 2018. The landscaped area extends over six acres, one acre more than the Hudson Yards plaza opening this Fall.

One Manhattan West’s Supertall Superstructure Nears Topping-Out

Construction of the supertall office building One Manhattan West in Midtown has made rapid progress since our last reporting in October. The project has reached a few milestones while under the radar, including the superstructure finally stretching above its immediate neighbor, Three Manhattan West. The steel massing is 22 floors below the superstructure, and the curtain wall façade, which just began installation last October, is now 19 floors below the steel. The ballooning steel envelope is now significantly above its immediate neighbors, with the curtain wall starting to reach the same threshold. Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill LLP are responsible for the design.

YIMBY Tours 50 West Street As 59th Floor Penthouse Hits Market for $22.645 Million

A newly minted tower has risen above the New York harbor. The Helmut Jahn-designed 50 West is a 783-foot tall residential building in Manhattan’s Financial District with curtain wall glass and distinctive angled crown. The project has been about a decade since it started, and now proudly stands with early move-ins, nearly complete. It started in 2008, right before the Great Depression. The glass façade was finished in February, and interior installation has started. Time Equities is responsible for the development.

Façade Revealed for 145 President Street, Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn

YIMBY has been given a first look at the brick façade for 145 President Street, in Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens neighborhood. Last week the tarp was removed, revealing the building’s handcrafted masonry, produced by Petersen Tegl from Denmark. The style is renowned for having clean lines and neutral tones. East Village-based Avery Hall Investments is the developer.

Rendering Revealed for 489 Washington Avenue, Clinton Hill, Brooklyn

Brooklyn’s boom continues apace, and today, YIMBY has the reveal for the redevelopment of the existing building at 489 Washington Avenue, in Clinton Hill. The site is three blocks away from the Clinton-Washington Avenue subway station, serviced by the C trains. GB Properties is responsible for the applications. Construction will alter the extant structure, resulting in a tenfold increase in the unit count.

The Javits Center’s Major Expansion Begins To Take Shape on the Far West Side

While Related’s rising skyscrapers at Hudson Yards tend to dominate the headlines for the Far West Side, the Javits Center’s expansion is another major component of the neighborhood’s ongoing revitalization. Located on the northern end of the Jacob K. Javits Center, the new 1.2 million square-foot addition to the building has been progressing quickly, with excavation and foundation work now making substantial headway. In total, Javits will contain 3.3 million square feet of space under one roof by 2021.

Tapering Begins As 111 West 57th Street Reaches For 1,428-Foot Pinnacle

Construction on the most slender skyscraper in the world has been advancing at lightning speed, and now, YIMBY can confirm that 111 West 57th Street has reached another major milestone. Our last update, just over a month ago, missed an obscure but significant achievement. With additional progress since, we can see that the Midtown project has officially passed its first setback, on the 45^th floor. This is the first of twelve setbacks that will end with the steel truss cap, which will ultimately define the striking silhouette of 57th Street’s second-tallest supertall.

Inside Look as 99 Hudson Street Surpasses Halfway Point to 900′ Pinnacle

While Manhattan’s construction boom is now resulting in towers crossing the 1,000-foot mark on what seems to be a monthly basis, the first near-supertall across the Hudson is also making rapid progress. 99 Hudson Street has officially crossed the halfway point to its final height of 900 feet. Once complete, the building will become the tallest skyscraper in both Jersey City, and all of New Jersey. Even at under 500′, the tower is already making an impact on the skyline, as seen from Lower Manhattan and the surrounding real estate fronting New York Harbor.
