Work Resumes on Sir David Adjaye’s Studio Museum of Harlem at 144 West 125th Street in Harlem, Manhattan

Construction is progressing on The Studio Museum of Harlem, a new six-story home for the cultural institution at 144 West 125th Street in Harlem, Manhattan. Designed by Sir David Adjaye of Adjaye Associates with Cooper Robertson & Partners as the architect of record, the 82,000-square-foot structure will feature expanded gallery and exhibition space for more than 2,000 objects, multiple lecture halls, a roof deck, a café, and retail space. Sciame Construction LLC and McKissack & McKissack are the construction managers for the property, which is situated on an interior lot between Malcolm X Boulevard to the east and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard to the west.

Construction and expansion work continues at PENN 2, a 31-story commercial building at Two Penn Plaza in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by MdeAS Architects and developed by Vornado Realty Trust, the topped-out project involves the replacement of the 412-foot-tall tower’s outdated midcentury façade with a new glass curtain wall and set of light-colored metal paneling, a full gut renovation of its 1.61 million square feet of office space, new pocketed corner terraces, and a multi-story cantilevering volume along Seventh Avenue. GMSLLP is the façade consultant and Turner Construction Company and Skanska are the contractors for the property, which is located between West 31st and West 33rd Streets within the Penn District revitalization master plan.

CORE Real Estate is handling sales and marketing and New Empire Builder Corp. is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the corner of Second Avenue and East 25th Street.
