Façade work is in full swing at 27-21 44th Drive in Long Island City. The 27-story apartment building known as The Edison reached its final height in early June, when the national flag was hoisted atop its concrete bulkhead. At that point, the roughly 300-foot-tall structure became the tenth-tallest within the Court Square district, though taller neighbors rising nearby are already surpassing it. However, the building would remain highly visible thanks to its position at the epicenter of the resurgent neighborhood.

At the start of the month YIMBY announced the topping out of Watermark Court Square, at 27-19 44th Drive. The 168-unit rental building had added around 17 floors since the end of May. Building permits place the height at 282 feet, although it is not certain whether the figure includes its mechanical bulkhead. In either case, the 27-story tower now stands among the dozen-tallest buildings in the Court Square district, eight of which topped out less than a year ago.

Completion Near for Aloft Long Island City at 27-45 Jackson Avenue, Future Tallest Hotel in Queens

Construction is wrapping up on the Aloft Hotel at 27-45 Jackson Avenue, in Long Island City’s Court Square district. According to Starwood Hotels, the 176-room property, officially called the “Aloft Long Island City – Manhattan View,” is set to open on October 27. At that point, the 18-story, 186-foot-tall high-rise should become the tallest all-hotel building in Queens. Though the 31-story slab of the nearby 29-11 Queens Plaza North, which opened its doors just recently, stands a good deal taller, the Marriott Courtyard within occupies only the tower’s lower half, with the residences at Aurora LIC sitting above. By YIMBY’s count, Aloft Hotel’s lofty pinnacle rises higher than that of any other hotel in the borough.

The Edison, a 115-unit residential tower at 27-21 44th Drive, is rising on one of the most active construction blocks in the city. The future 26-story, 277-foot-tall tower has recently passed its 20th floor. The project is being developed by Silvercup Properties, the development branch of movie and TV producer Silvercup Studios, which has been an icon of Long Island City decades before the first glass skyscrapers graced the local skyline. GF55 Partners is the architect of record. S2 Construction, LLC serves as the general contractor.

27-Story Watermark Court Square at 27-19 44th Drive Rises One-Third of the Way to Its Final Height

Watermark Court Square, the 27-story luxury rental building at 27-19 44th Drive in Long Island City, has risen past its tenth floor, about a third of the way to its final 282-foot height. The LEED-certified building is developed by Twining Properties, with The Ashforth Company as an investment partner. TG Nickel & Associates is the general contractor for the project, which Handel Architects designed as a slender stack of floor-to-ceiling windows set within a grid of grey and dark brown brick. Completion is expected in 2017.
