A $3.5 billion initiative to reshape and redevelop an industrial wasteland on the Eastern edge of The Bronx has reached the final stages of negotiations, and could soon begin construction. Known formally as Fordham Landing, the property is located between the Harlem River and the Major Deegan Expressway, immediately adjacent to the University Heights Bridge.

Extensive rezoning proposals from New York City’s Department of City Planning could spur a dramatic uptick in development along the shores of Gowanus, Brooklyn. Known among city agencies as the “Gowanus Neighborhood Plan,” the initiative is designed to facilitate the construction of residential and commercial properties, to encourage population increase, and to help create new job opportunities for local residents.
Recent proposals to the New York City Department of City Planning could facilitate the construction of a 1.4 million square foot, mixed-use project in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. If approved, the massive plan could yield one of the community’s largest-ever developments.
Earlier this month, the City Planning Commission approved proposals for four new skyscrapers coming to the Two Bridges section of the Lower East Side. The tallest of the bunch will be 247 Cherry Street, adjacent to the site of Extell’s One Manhattan Square. The upcoming 1,008-foot-tall residential skyscraper will be designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS Development, and is the 11th tallest tower underway in the Five Boroughs. This supertall is the only project on YIMBY’s end-of-year list where site work has not yet begun, although with City Planning approval now secured, that is hopefully a matter of imminency.
Lengthy proposals have been submitted to NYC’s Department of City Planning to establish a sprawling mixed-use building complex in Coney Island, Brooklyn. Located just north of the neighborhood’s world-famous boardwalk, the proposed development is comprised of 8 primary parcels and will require zoning amendments to permit the construction of the mid-rise, mixed-use buildings.
