Construction at 200 Amsterdam Avenue has topped out. The residential skyscraper stands 668 feet high above the Upper West Side and has secured the title of tallest structure in the neighborhood, if only temporarily. The 51-story building is designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects and developed by SJP Properties. CetraRuddy is the lead interior designer for the 283,000-square-foot project.
New York City’s Board of Standards and Appeals again upheld the development and construction of 200 Amsterdam Avenue despite years of pushback from both neighborhood groups and members of the State Supreme Court. In possible protest of state-level overreach, the board’s vote of support will allow SJP Properties to legally continue construction of the 668-foot tower.
Construction at 200 Amsterdam Avenue is quickly rising above the surrounding rooftops. When topped out, the 668-foot-tall residential development will hold the title of tallest skyscraper on the Upper West Side until Extell‘s 775-foot tall tower at 50 West 66th Street tops out. The building is designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects, which was responsible for The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards. SJP Properties is the developer while CetraRuddy is the lead interior designer. The 283,000-square-foot project, which sits at the southwestern corner of Amsterdam Avenue and West 70th Street, will yield 112 residential units.
At noon today, New York’s newest neighborhood will ceremonially open for business. Hudson Yards‘ first public-facing attractions—the Shops & Restaurants and Thomas Heatherwick’s interactive sculpture Vessel—will welcome the crowds that have watched patiently from afar as the project’s soaring, glass-sheathed towers have transformed the skyline. Elkus Manfredi Architects is the designer of the seven-story retail center, of which Neiman Marcus is the anchor tenant. The city’s largest indoor shopping mall with more than 100 stores, it features 720,000 leasable square feet with nearly 85 percent of the space already occupied.
Construction of what may temporarily become the tallest skyscraper on the Upper West Side is poised to go vertical. As of yesterday, the building’s crane has arrived, and has been successfully installed for the soon-to-be 51-story 200 Amsterdam Avenue. Work has already reached the ground floor, with the foundation likely near completion. Concrete pouring for the first floor slab remains forthcoming.
