151 Maiden Lane and One Seaport Rising Quickly, Financial District

At the intersection of the Financial District and the beginnings of South Street Seaport lies Maiden Lane, which is rapidly transforming into a continuation of the high-rise corridor to the south. On one particular corner, at the intersection with Front Street, two buildings are now rising. Thanks to YIMBY Forumer Rich Brome we have photos of the new hotel coming to 151 Maiden Lane, which is already several floors above street level, as well as the residential tower rising at One Seaport, climbing next door at a slightly slower pace.

The Financial District hasn’t fully transformed into a residential neighborhood just yet, but each year it seems to be getting closer. Today, YIMBY has the reveal for another new development coming to the area, at 1 Beekman Street, thanks to eagle-eyed forum poster Rich Brome. It’s Time to Bring Back Norman Foster’s Design for 2 World Trade Center

News broke this week that billionaire Ron Perelman committed $75 million to financing the World Trade Center’s Performing Arts Center, which will provide the complex with a much-needed cultural amenity. But with 175 Greenwich (3 World Trade Center) nearly complete and the remaining puzzle pieces now falling into place, it is YIMBY’s opinion that it is also time to reconsider the design changes proposed for 2 World Trade Center. With Fox failing to commit to BIG’s proposal for the site, it makes much more sense to return to Norman Foster’s far more attractive design for the tower, which was shelved last year.

Foundations Complete For 25-Story Hotel At 100 Greenwich Street

When YIMBY last visited the site of the 192-room hotel at 100 Greenwich in October 2015, the 25-story tower’s foundations were only beginning to take shape. Rebar was being laid out for the concrete foundation mat at the rear on the site, while the front portion was still under excavation. Three months later, the building is yet to breach ground level, but its foundations are virtually complete.

50 West Street is Topped Out And Nearing Exterior Completion

Exterior completion is approaching for one of the most dramatic additions to the Downtown skyline in decades. The Helmut Jahn-designed residential skyscraper at 50 West Street reached its full height of 784 feet in September. As of today, most scaffolding has been removed from the crown, revealing a slanted concrete halo. The elegant concrete band will soon be obscured by a cocoon of curvy glass, which is being installed only nine floors below.
