Installation of the glass curtain panels has begun on COOKFOX Architect’s 24-story Flatiron District project at 39 West 23rd Street. The topped out reinforced concrete superstructure rises along West 23rd Street between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue, one of Manhattan’s busiest thoroughfares. Anbau Enterprises is the developer of the two-tower complex.
L&L Holding Company has partnered with Standard Arts on a new public art exhibition at the base of 200 Fifth Avenue, following a $135 million renovation of the Flatiron District building. The installation is titled “Pixel Garden” and was completed by Latin American artist Gustavo Prado.
Construction is rapidly ascending at 39 West 23rd Street, a 24-story, ground-up residential structure in the Flatiron District. Designed by COOKFOX Architects and developed by Anbau Enterprises, the project consists of two towers, one along West 23rd Street and a second superstructure at the back of the property. A central landscaped courtyard will sit between each reinforced concrete building.
When YIMBY last checked in on the site for 25 West 24th Street back in 2016, a 47-bed homeless shelter was in the works, proposed by the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). Now, a new rendering by Issac & Stern Architects has revealed the planned exterior for the project in Manhattan’s Flatiron District, which indicates a substantial change in plans. The new structure shown looks to stand 18 stories tall, and is located between 5th and 6th Avenue.
A new public art installation has come to Madison Square Park’s Oval Lawn, in the Flatiron District. The piece is named Whiteout, and it consists of nine hundred white LED orbs suspended by cable in the shape of two parallel rectangular grids. The lights hang about a foot above the ground, allowing the wind to create noticeable oscillating patterns. Erwin Redl, an Austrian artist, is responsible for the creation of the piece.
