Hotel developer Sam Chang has just broken ground on his second hotel on West 39th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues. YIMBY has the first look at the building at 350 West 39th Street, which will be designed by Gene Kaufman.
Earlier this week, DNAinfo caught the pre-filing for a five-story hotel that would replace a Western Beef supermarket at 36-20 Steinway Street in Long Island City. Now official plans have been submitted to the Department of Buildings for the project, which will rise between 36th Avenue and Northern Boulevard, right across from Sunnyside Yards.
The blocks just south of Penn Station in Chelsea are getting yet another hotel designed by Gene Kaufman. Plans were filed yesterday for a 40-story hotel at 144 West 28th Street, between Sixth and Seventh avenues.
Great Neck, N.Y.-based McSam Hotel Group has filed applications for a 24-story, 252-unit hotel building at 525 Eighth Avenue, located between West 36th and 37th streets in Midtown’s Garment District. The tower will encompass 88,127 square feet and rise 213 feet above street level to its roof. Guest amenities include a fitness center, bicycle storage, and a rooftop bar on the 24th floor. There will also be retail space on the ground floor. Gene Kaufman’s Union Square-based architecture firm is the architect of record. The 7,454-square-foot property, at 523-529 Eighth Avenue, is currently occupied by a single-story commercial building. Joseph P. Day Realty Corporation is the property owner.
Since being eight stories in height when YIMBY checked in last October, the 29-story, 250-key hotel under development at 6 Water Street — located at the corner of Moore Street in the Financial District — has topped out. The construction progress can be seen thanks to a photo posted to the YIMBY Forums. The latest building permits indicate the 298-foot-tall structure measures 125,684 square feet. Guest amenities at the hotel will include storage for 10 bikes, a fitness center, a coffee shop, and a restaurant on the second floor. The hotel rooms will begin on the third floor. The hotel operator is not yet known. Magna Hospitality Group is the developer and Gene Kaufman’s SoHo-based architectural firm is responsible for the design. Since the majority of the hotel’s façade is already installed, completion later this year wouldn’t be surprising.
