Affordable housing development Mannie Wilson Towers in Manhattan’s Harlem neighborhood just received $18.2 million for capital improvements and system upgrades from Merchants Capital New York, a mortgage banking company. Located at 565 Manhattan Avenue, the structure originally debuted in 1892 as Sydenham Hospital which closed in 1980. Owned by West Harlem Group Assistance, Inc., Mannie Wilson Towers currently provides restricted-income housing to senior residents.

El Barrio Community Land Trust to Renovate 4 City-Owned Buildings to Affordable Housing in Harlem

Four buildings under new ownership of The East Harlem El Barrio Community Land Trust (CLT) are currently undergoing construction to transform them into affordable apartments. Located at 53 East 110th Street, 201 East 120th Street, 204 West 121st Street, and 304 East 126th Street in Harlem, the project will yield 36 rental apartments and three commercial spaces. CLT will own the land and lead the renovation project, and is joined by Mutual Housing Association and the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) in this $13.2 million deal.

Construction Progresses on Marcus Garvey Village at 212 West 124th Street, in Harlem

Construction is underway for Marcus Garvey Village, an 18-story mixed-use development in Manhattan’s Harlem neighborhood. Located at 212 West 124th Street, the 300,000-square-foot building will have 330 units, 3,200 square feet of commercial space, and 7,164 square feet of community facility space. The Harlem-based team behind the project includes developer Carthage Real Estate Advisors and Body Lawson Associates Architects and Planners for the design.

Victory Plaza has officially opened in Central Harlem. The nine-story, 136-unit development with 100 percent affordable housing for seniors is located at 11 West 118th Street. Developed by Camber Property Group in partnership with Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement (HCCI), the New York City Department of Housing Preservation & Development, and the New York City Housing Development Corporation, the building is designed by Aufgang Architects.
