A strip of aging industrial buildings along McCarren Park in Greenpoint are gradually giving way to residential ones. First, an old school Polish bakery sold to Chatham Development Company for $8.7 million, and plans for a seven-story, two-tower condo building surfaced at the DOB. Now, new building applications have been filed for a six-story apartment building at 848 Lorimer Street, between Nassau and Driggs avenues.

Five-Story, Five-Unit Residential Building Planned At 525 Leonard Street, Greenpoint

Brooklyn-based Sand Castle Building has filed applications for a five-story, five-unit residential building at 525 Leonard Street, in southern Greenpoint, a block away from the Nassau Avenue stop on the G train. The structure will measure 5,022 square feet in total, which means units will measure 1,004 square feet apiece. Two units will span across the first two levels, and three full-floor units will take up the remaining upper floors. Midtown South-based Issac & Stern Architects is the architect of record. An existing two-story house must first be demolished.

Foundation Work Underway For Seven-Story, 37-Unit Condo Project At 50 Clinton Street, Lower East Side

Early in 2014, YIMBY reported on applications for a seven-story, 37-unit residential building at 50 Clinton Street, on the Lower East Side, and later that year, DHA Capital acquired the development site for $28 million. Bowery Boogie now reports foundation work is well underway, although construction has been temporarily halted by stop work orders. Issac & Stern Architects is designing the project, which will also include 1,836 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The residential units will be condos and will average 1,023 square feet apiece. All but eight are in contract and completion is scheduled for the second half of 2016.
