New York City Council Approves $2B Innovation QNS Complex in Astoria, Queens

The New York City Council voted Tuesday, November 21 to approve Innovation QNS, a $2 billion mixed-use development that will bring 3,200 apartments to Astoria, Queens. The development team behind the property includes Kaufman Astoria Studios, Silverstein Properties, and BedRock Real Estate Partners, which was forced to price around 1,400 apartments, or nearly half of the planned units, below market rate.

Lionsgate Entertainment Company Signs on as Anchor Tenant in $100 Million Studio Development in Yonkers

Last week, media-focused investment firm Great Point Capital Management signed on entertainment company Lionsgate as its anchor tenant for a new $100 million production-studio development in Yonkers. Lionsgate will also be an investor in the project that includes five studios and a back lot near the Yonkers downtown Metro-North train station. Also a partner in the joint venture is developer National Resources.

Kaufman Astoria Studios’ 100,000 Square Foot Expansion Revealed, Queens

Kaufman Astoria Studios first opened in 1921, and has long been a centerpiece of New York City’s media industry. The Astoria-based complex is no longer relying on its historical footprint, having recently become the first studio in the Five Boroughs to gain a backlot for filming. A backlot is a space containing permanent exterior sets. The latest addition to the campus will be a newly built four-story office building at 34-11 36th Street, Queens, that will include two new stages, which YIMBY can now reveal. The studio’s Astoria on Stage LLC is behind the applications.
