BIG’s Twisting Towers at 76 Eleventh Avenue Begin Making An Impact on the Chelsea Skyline

Chelsea has long been a center of creativity in Manhattan. Recent developments have been strongly inspired by that history. Many of the city’s most notable projects with distinctive architecture style have popped along the new High Line Park, including the Frank Gehry-design IAC Building, and Zaha Hadid’s 520 West 28^th Street. The neighborhood’s latest impending icon is 76 Eleventh Avenue, a pair of twisting mixed-use towers under development by HFZ Capital. Construction is moving quickly for all components, and thanks to photos by Tectonic, we can see the latest progress.

New Rendering for 19 Dutch as Completion Nears, Financial District

Progress on the 64-story 19 Dutch is moving quickly toward completion, with the development gearing up for the start of leasing in the next few months. The residential project has already seen the completion of the majority of its façade, with only the area under the exterior hoist remaining to be filled-in. Our last coverage of the skyscraper included birds-eye images from 3WTC’s rooftop. Today, we have a sneak peek look at the building’s newest rendering.

New Design Revealed for Future Skyscraper at 1710 Broadway, in Midtown Manhattan

The fate of 1710 Broadway in Midtown has been a point of anticipation for a long time, with YIMBY’s coverage of the saga beginning in 2014. Now, there has been a major update to tentative plans for the site, situated prominently on the northeast corner of Broadway and 54th Street.

The Moinian Group Files for 37-Story Tower at 3 Platt Street, Financial District

Permits have been filed by the Moinian Group for a major new 37-story mixed-use tower to rise at 3 Platt Street, in the Financial District of Manhattan. The building will also have the address of 110 John Street. The site is five blocks away from the Fulton Street subway station entrance, serviced by the A, C, J, Z, 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains.

New Applications for Residential Development at 238 East 3rd Street, East Village

Today, building applications reveal a new, residential development at 238 East 3rd Street, in Manhattan’s historically gritty East Village neighborhood. The build site measures approximately 50’ x 106’ with a full lot coverage of 5,253 square feet.

Regressive NIMBYS Attempt To Halt 200 Amsterdam Avenue As Pile-Driving Begins, Upper West Side

Construction is progressing quickly at 200 Amsterdam Avenue, where a 51-story, 668-foot tall skyscraper will soon rise. When first announced, the building was to become the tallest skyscraper on the Upper West Side. That title was lost when Extell announced plans for 50 West 66^th Street, a particularly striking 775-foot tall residential building designed by Snøhetta. But even the area’s second-tallest is too much for local NIMBYs, and with excavation work on the project now making rapid headway, opponents have begun engaging in increasingly deranged efforts to hoist a wall of red-tape around the southern blocks of the Upper West Side.

Façade Installation Begins for Gene Kaufman-Designed 1050 Sixth Avenue, Midtown Manhattan

The Gene Kaufman designed-1050 Sixth Avenue, dubbed ML House, is making significant progress in the heart of Midtown, Manhattan. In a break from the architect’s norm, the building will not be hospitality-minded; rather, it will yield 24 floors of apartments, as well as ground-floor retail space. The site is half a block away from Bryant Park, with access to several subway lines just a few blocks in any direction. Orin Wilf’s Garden Homes and Skyline is responsible for the development.

Design Revealed for 145 Central Park North, 14-Story Condo Project Coming to Harlem

With so much focus on the rising developments along Central Park South, there hasn’t been much discussion of new penthouses rising on the other end of the greenery, mostly because they are very few and far between. One of those rarities is 145 Central Park North, a 14-story residential building near the center of Central Park North in Harlem, between 7^th Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard. Today, YIMBY has the first rendering of the project, which is being developed by Einhorn Development Group.

Demolition Permits Filed for 499-501 Third Avenue, Kips Bay, Manhattan

Plans for a thirteen-story mixed-use building were first floated in 2016 at 501 Third Avenue, on the 34^th Street border between Kips Bay and Murray Hill. While the site has since sat idle, this appears to be changing up. Demolition permits have now been filed for two buildings, at 499 Third Avenue and 501 Third Avenue. Xin Xu of China Overseas Land & Investments Co filed the documents.

Excavation Begins for Long-Awaited Tower at 41 West 23rd Street, in Chelsea

Anbau Enterprises is officially moving forward on 41 West 23^rd Street, in Chelsea, over three years after the site’s re-design passed the Landmark Preservation Commission. Located half a block away from the Flatiron Building and less than two avenues away from four different subway stations on 23^rd Street, the lot has been expected to yield something interesting for about a decade, which means actual progress is very welcome.
