62-Story, 426-Unit Mixed-Use Tower Rises Above Street Level At 242 West 53rd Street, Midtown

Construction is two stories above street level on a 62-story, 426-unit mixed-use tower under development at 242 West 53rd Street, in Midtown. Work is underway on the base of the building, as seen in photos posted to the YIMBY Forums. The latest building permits indicate the project will encompass 542,276 square feet and rise 674 feet to its roof, not including the bulkhead and other mechanical equipment. There will be 16,514 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The residential units above should average 1,024 square feet apiece, although it’s unclear whether they will be condominiums or rentals. Algin Management is the developer and CetraRuddy is behind the architecture. Completion is expected in 2018.

Now the firm has filed plans for the 64-story building, which has been named “The Spiral” and comes with a second address at 66 Hudson Boulevard.
