By the time Donald Trump becomes President of the United States next week, New York City taxpayers will have spent $37 million to keep him and his family safe from harm in Trump Tower. The City Council grilled the NYPD Tuesday over how much it’s going to cost to protect the President if he treats his Manhattan apartment like a weekend “pied-a-terre” for the next four years.
Tishman Realty is planning a $65 million renovation on the four-story, 240,000-square-foot commercial-retail building at 247 West 42nd Street, in the Times Square section of Midtown. The 400-foot-long structure, which includes the retail space under the Westin Hotel at the corner of Eighth Avenue, will receive a more streamlined and modern façade, with billboard advertisements. The property owner plans to keep some existing tenants while replacing others, Crain’s reported. Construction is expected in 2018, with occupancy anticipated in 2019.
The long-planned Hudson Yards neighborhood is finally becoming a reality on the Far West Side of Manhattan. Developer Related Companies has filed plans for another gigantic office building, 50 Hudson Yards, at 415 10th Avenue.
Back at the end of 2014, YIMBY reported on the first permits for Ceruzzi Properties’ new tower at 520 Fifth Avenue, on the corner of West 43rd Street. The building will rise 71 floors and 920 feet to its roof, with a design by Handel Architects that YIMBY can now reveal thanks to eagle-eyed Forum user YIM_Hudson.
Construction is now 12 stories up on the 62-story, 426-unit mixed-use tower under development at 242 West 53rd Street, in Midtown’s Theater District. The progress on construction, first reported by Curbed NY, can be seen thanks to photos posted to the YIMBY Forums by Tectonic. Building permits indicate the project will eventually encompass 542,276 square feet, rising 674 feet to its main roof, not including the bulkhead. There will be 16,514 square feet of retail space across the ground floors, followed by 426 residential units on the fourth through 59th floors. The apartments, which are confirmed to be rentals, should average 1,024 square feet apiece. Algin Management is the developer and CetraRuddy is the architect. Completion is anticipated for 2018.
