Long Island-based Astrit Canj has filed applications for a two-story, two-unit mixed-use building at 179 McClean Avenue, in Staten Island’s south shore neighborhood of Arrochar, near the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. The small infill project will measure 4,000 square feet in total, with half the square-footage designated for ground-floor retail space. On the second floor, the residential units will average 1,000 square feet each. Staten Island-based Ryan & Vaccaro is the architect, and an existing home deep in the lot must first be demolished.

Five-Story, Eight-Unit Mixed-Use Building Coming To 832 40th Street, Sunset Park

Fong Benny, operating under an anonymous LLC, has filed applications for a five-story, eight-unit mixed-use building at 832 40th Street, in eastern Sunset Park, three blocks from the D train’s 9th Avenue stop. The building will measure 7,586 square feet, and that includes a 2,085 square-foot daycare facility on the ground and cellar levels. Residential units will beginning on the second floor, and units will average a rental-sized 688 square feet each. Borough Park-based Shiming Tam is the architect of record, and the existing two-story townhouse must first be demolished.

Columbia’s 15-Story Medical & Graduate Center Gets Glassy At 104 Haven Avenue, Washington Heights

Since topping out late last year, Columbia University’s 15-story, 196-foot tall Medical and Graduate Education Building, at 104 Haven Avenue, in Washington Heights, has been quietly underway, and now the building is nearly completely clad in glass, per Curbed. The building measures 107,300 square feet in total, and 80,768 square feet will be dedicated to academics, meeting spaces, offices and laboratories. Diller, Scofidio + Renfro is designing, and Gensler is serving as the architect of record. The project is expected to be complete next year.


26 Avenue B

Excavation Begins For Six-Story, Eight-Unit Mixed-Use Project At 26 Avenue B, East Village

Excavation has commenced at 26 Avenue B, in the East Village, where a six-story, eight-unit mixed-use building is planned, according to EV Grieve. The building will measure a total 7,732 square feet, which includes 1,614 square feet of retail space on the ground floor; according to the Schedule A, an eating and drinking establishment is planned. Residential units above will average 765 square feet apiece. Back when the filings were submitted to the DOB in 2011, Shiming Tam was the architect, but now Roman Sorokko’s Little Neck-based Versatile Engineering is serving as applicant of record.


111 Montgomery Street

Residential Development Potential At 111 Montgomery Street Site, Crown Heights

PWR Holdings has placed the development site at 111 Montgomery Street, in western Crown Heights, on the market with an asking price in the mid-$40 million, according to Commercial Observer. The 22,000 square-foot site boasts 168,000 square feet of development rights. New building applications were filed to build a 12-story, 173-unit apartment building on the property in March.
