A new era is about to dawn for a SoHo building. On Tuesday, amid testimony from an Academy Award winner, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved changes that will assist the office conversion of the parking garage at 165 Mercer Street. That’s on the west side of the street between Prince and West Houston streets.
Chicago-based L3 Capital has filed applications for a two-story, 4,790-square-foot commercial-retail building at 91 North 6th Street, in northeastern Williamsburg. The project, to rise 43 feet in height, will host 4,250 square feet of commercial space across the ground and second floors. There will be storage space in the cellar. Midtown East-based Kenneth Park Architects is the architect of record. The 25-foot-wide, 2,500-square-foot lot is vacant. It currently connects to another vacant lot on the other side of the block, although the new building will be restricted to the 6th Street side.
Brooklyn-based developer Brooklyn Boss has filed applications for a five-story, seven-unit mixed-use building at 72 South 2nd Street, located on the corner of Wythe Avenue, in western Williamsburg. The project will measure 13,720 square feet. It will host 3,750 square feet of medical offices on the ground floor, followed by residential units above. The apartments should average 1,160 square feet apiece, indicative of condominiums. Haworth, N.J.-based T.F. Cusanelli & Filletti Architects is the architect of record. The 50-foot-wide, 3,750-square-foot assemblage is occupied by three- and two-story structures. The new building will be built around the three-story structure on the corner. The Bedford Avenue station on the L train is a little more than 10 minutes away.
Another piece of the puzzle has fallen into place for Lower East Side megaproject Essex Crossing. Applications have been filed for a 25-story, mixed-use building at 180 Broome Street, between Delancey, Clinton, and Suffolk streets.
A major piece of abolitionist history in New York City looks like it is on its way to being restored. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission took up the case of 339 West 29th Street, also known as the Hopper-Gibbons House, in Chelsea.
