There’s a new skyscraper to look forward to in NoMad, Manhattan. Permits have been approved for the construction of the Rockefeller Group’s 639-foot-tall building at 30 East 29th Street. This news comes nearly four months after YIMBY obtained the building’s early renderings, with design by CetraRuddy.
NoMad has been experiencing an incredible amount of construction over the last few years, especially for new hotels. Today, YIMBY has a look at 1225 Broadway, the future Virgin Hotel, which is being developed by the Lam Group. New images reveal that construction has now reached the tenth floor, surpassing the tower’s base, which will eventually create 100,000 square feet of retail space. The full footprint of the podium remains to be completed.
Construction at 277 Fifth Avenue is moving along quickly, with just thirteen floors of façade installation remaining. Victor Group and Lendlease are developing the 55-story skyscraper in NoMad, on the corner of 30th Street. The tower, designed by Rafael Vinoly Architects, has a dark-indigo façade made of reinforced cast-concrete panels, fabricated in Finland. Multi-layered glazed curtain walls were designed for optimal thermal and acoustical performance, and there is also a cantilever over its southern neighbor.
When the old Bancroft Bank Building met the wrecking ball a few years ago, the site, at 3 West 29th Street, was tentatively planned to give rise to a residential tower designed by Moshe Safdie. In September of 2017, that changed, when HFZ Capital filed plans for a Bjarke Ingels-designed office skyscraper, as reported by YIMBY. Now, we have the exclusive reveal for the first renderings of the new building, which will apparently be even more prominent on the skyline than originally planned.
The Rafael Viñoly-designed 277 Fifth Avenue, in NoMad, has officially topped out. Our last look at the tower was on December 26th, 2017, when we were given a tour of the sales gallery and the 46th floor, which at that time, was the highest level. With the superstructure now spanning its full 55 stories, about twenty floors of cladding remain before the exterior is complete.
