Small-scale infill predominates in the blocks that surround the Rheingold Brewery redevelopment in Bushwick, which is why the project’s rise is so transformational for the neighborhood. Glacier Global Partners’ renovation and refurbishment of the 230,000 square-foot warehouse at 10 Jay Street is making major progress, per the latest photos from Tectonic. The 10-story building is receiving a glassy new facade designed by ODA New York, which was first revealed in a video posted by Curbed back in February of 2015. The crystalline exterior is up to the eighth floor of the structure, and completion is likely within the next year or so.
Back in February of 2016, YIMBY reported on new building applications for 22-12 Jackson Avenue, in Long Island City. The lot’s former occupant has since been demolished, and now excavators are beginning to dig away at the site, which will imminently host an 11-story and 175-unit condominium development, designed by ODA New York.
Three years ago, developer Read Property Group negotiated a controversial residential rezoning of the former Rheingold Brewery properties in southern Bushwick. After neighbors fought for affordable housing there, Read sold the multi-acre industrial property to Rabsky Group and All Year Management, who didn’t have to honor Read’s promises for low income rentals. Now All Year Management is pushing forward with construction on its two pieces of the site, at 123 Melrose Street and 28 Stanwix Street.
Not far from the L train sits a quiet Williamsburg corner where something has risen above all of its neighbors. It is 190 South 1st Street. The last time YIMBY checked on the project, it was just a black and white rendering. Now, it has topped out and is actually nearing completion.
