Excavation Underway for Supertall Hotel and Observation Tower at 740 Eighth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

Leading off the top five in our year-end countdown of the tallest construction projects underway in New York is 740 Eighth Avenue, a planned 1,067-foot hotel and observation tower in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by ODA with SLCE Architects as the architect of record and developed by Extell, the 52-story supertall will span 776,000 square feet with 825 hotel rooms on the lower half and a public observatory with a drop ride attraction on the upper levels. The project will also feature retail space, two upper restaurant floors, and a pool deck. Lendlease is the general contractor, WSP is the structural engineer, and Ancora Engineering is handling the excavation and foundations for the property, which is located between West 45th and 46th Streets on the border of Times Square and Hell’s Kitchen.

Luminescence Market Debuts at 5302 Center Boulevard in Hunter’s Point South, Queens

TF Cornerstone this week debuted Luminescence Market, the first grocery store to open within the Hunter’s Point South complex in Hunter’s Point, Queens. The store is located at the foot of 5203 Center Boulevard, a 52-story residential tower that overlooks the East River.

New York City Council Approves $2B Innovation QNS Complex in Astoria, Queens

The New York City Council voted Tuesday, November 21 to approve Innovation QNS, a $2 billion mixed-use development that will bring 3,200 apartments to Astoria, Queens. The development team behind the property includes Kaufman Astoria Studios, Silverstein Properties, and BedRock Real Estate Partners, which was forced to price around 1,400 apartments, or nearly half of the planned units, below market rate.

Sunnyside Community Services Unveils New Facility in Long Island City, Queens

Sunnyside Community Services has completed a state-of-the-art home health aide training facility at 52-41 Center Boulevard, a new high-rise residential building in Long Island City, Queens. Located within the Hunter’s Point mega-complex, the nonprofit’s new space is on the building’s second floor and occupies 7,700 square feet.

Excavation and pilings are underway at 740 Eighth Avenue, the site of a 1,067-foot-tall hotel and observation tower in Midtown, Manhattan. ODA is the design architect, SLCE Architects is the architect of record, and Extell is developing the 52-story supertall skyscraper that will yield 776,000 square feet with an 825-room hotel in the tower base and an upper observatory spanning four floors with a drop ride attraction. The building will also contain retail space, two upper restaurant floors, and a pool deck. The top observatory floor will serve as an exclusive VIP space. Lendlease is listed as the general contractor, WSP is the structural engineer, and Ancora Engineering is handling the excavation and drilling for the foundations of the property, which is located between West 45th and 46th Streets.

2505 Broadway Completes Construction on Manhattan’s Upper West Side

Construction is complete on 2505 Broadway, a 19-story residential building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Designed by ODA and developed by Adam America Real Estate, the 75,000-square-foot structure yields 41 condominiums in one- to four-bedroom layouts, many of which come with private outdoor terraces. Ariel Tirosh and Douglas Elliman Development Marketing are the exclusive sales and marketing agents for the property, which is located near the corner of Broadway and West 93rd Street.

The Westly Nears Completion at 251 West 91st Street on Manhattan’s Upper West Side

Façade installation is nearing completion on The Westly, a 20-story residential building at 251 West 91st Street on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Designed by ODA Architects and developed by Adam America Real Estate and Northlink Capital, the structure will yield 52 units in two- to five-bedroom layouts with marketing by Ryan Serhant of SERHANT. Urban Atelier Group is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the corner of Broadway and West 91st Street.

439-441 West 54th Street Progresses in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

Façade work is finishing up on 439-441 West 54th Street, a seven-story residential building in Hell’s Kitchen. Designed by ODA and developed by Yaus Special Clinton District LLC, the 66-foot-tall structure will yield 28 condominium units spread across 38,850 square feet, for an average of 1,170 square feet apiece. Cornerstone Structures is the general contractor for the property, which is located between Ninth and Tenth Avenues. Brown Harris Stevens Development Marketing will be handling sales.

208 Delancey Street Completes Construction on Manhattan’s Lower East Side

Construction is complete on 208 Delancey Street, a 12-story residential building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Designed by ODA New York and developed by New Empire Corporation, the 85,000-square-foot structure yields 85 condominium units in studio to three-bedroom layouts with sales and marketing led by Compass. The property is located by the corner of Delancey Street and Pitt Street.

New Renderings Released for ODA’s 126 East 57th Street Tower in Midtown East, Manhattan

New renderings have been released for 126 East 57th Street, a 28-story residential tower on Billionaires’ Row in Midtown East, Manhattan. Designed by ODA Architecture and developed by MRR Development under the MRR 1326 LLC, the 346-foot-tall tower will yield 147 condominiums spread across 170,000 square feet with interiors by Gabellini Sheppard, as well as 5,000 square feet of retail space. WSP USA is the engineer, and Plaza Buildings is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the corner of East 56th Street and Lexington Avenue.
