The next phase of renovations at Manhattan’s historic Rockefeller Plaza will be reviewed by the Landmarks Preservation Commission in a public hearing on Tuesday, June 30. Tishman Speyer, current owner of the complex, has proposed a multitude of alterations as part of a masterplan conceived by Gabellini Sheppard Associates. This newly revealed component is specifically focused on the east lobby and mezzanine at 45 Rockefeller Plaza, also known as the International Building and 630 Fifth Avenue.

The properties are located at 44-54 Ninth Avenue and 351-355 West 14th Street at the corner of 14th Street and Ninth Avenue.

Marx Realty has announced an extensive renovation project at 545 Madison Avenue to modernize the Midtown office building. The scope of work includes an overhaul of the lobby, creation of pre-built tenant suites on the third and 14th floors, and the construction of 5,000 square feet of new amenity spaces. According to representatives from the company, total construction costs for the project hover around $24 million and represent the growing demand for offices with hospitality-oriented amenities.

LPC to Review Proposal for an Observation Deck at the Chrysler Building

Proposals to construct a new observation deck on the upper floors of the Chrysler Building have arrived for review by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. As promised by Aby Rosen, co-founder of RFR Holding and part-owner of the Midtown East icon, these plans comprise just one phase of his vision to invigorate interior spaces of the landmark at 405 Lexington Avenue with new restaurants, a food hall, and retail spaces.

One of the more interesting proposals includes a new commercial building designed by Morris Adjmi Architects at 1162 Broadway in the Madison Square North Historic District. In 2016, the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) granted approvals for a commercial office conversion of two aging townhouses at 61-63 Crosby Street in SoHo, Manhattan. Architect David Grider, who oversaw the initial design and application process, will return to the LPC on Tuesday, April 21st with proposals to modernize and restore the buildings’ existing facades.
