OMA’s Cantilevered Towers Break Ground At Greenpoint Landing in North Brooklyn

Brookfield Properties and Park Tower Group have officially broken ground on the most anticipated phase of the Greenpoint Landing mega-development on the shores of northern Brooklyn. Designed by Jason Long of OMA, the new component is comprised of two residential towers and a vast extension of an existing public esplanade. The western tower features a series of cantilevers that reach outward in step with setbacks on the eastern edifice, giving the development a look reminiscent of a game of Tetris.

OMA Reveals Renderings for New Museum Expansion at 235 Bowery on the Lower East Side

This week, the New Museum announced plans for a second building that will nearly double the institution’s footprint to 115,277 square feet at 235 Bowery on the Lower East Side. The structure, designed by OMA’s Shohei Shigematsu and Rem Koolhaas in collaboration with Cooper Robertson, will rise 174 feet between Prince Street and Stanton Street. At seven stories high, the new development will dedicate three floors to gallery space, along with a cafe, bookstore, offices, community and education programs, art storage, and terraces concealed in triangular cutouts on the top three levels.

Greenpoint Landing’s Next Phase Revealed as OMA Selected For Design Of Two Skycrapers

Partners Brookfield Properties and Park Tower Group have announced the next large phase of development at Greenpoint Landing. The centerpiece will be two residential towers designed by OMA. One acre of public waterfront space designed by James Corner Field Operations will surround the mixed-income housing which will also include another new seven-story building. Thirty percent of the 745 units will be affordable housing. This project will also result in further expansion of Greenpoint’s waterfront esplanade. Marmol Radziner is the interior designer while Beyer Blinder Belle is the executive architect and interior designer.
