51-Story, 780-Foot-Tall Office Tower at 55 Hudson Yards Rises Above Street Level, Hudson Yards District

Back in August of 2015, foundation work was underway for 55 Hudson Yards, a planned 51-story, 1.3-million square-foot office building bound by Eleventh Avenue and Hudson Boulevard and West 33rd and 34th streets, in the Hudson Yards District. The structure has since risen above street level and is now three stories in height, as seen in photos by NyConstructionPhoto. The 780-foot-tall tower will feature an amenity-filled lobby and outdoor terraces throughout. Multiple tenants have already signed leases or letters of intent for space. Law firm Boies, Schiller & Flexner has leased 83,000 square feet, and Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, another law firm, signed a letter of intent to take 250,000 square feet. Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group are developing, while Kohn Pedersen Fox is the design architect. Tokyo-based Mitsui Fudosan owns a 92.09 percent share of the tower. Construction is expected to be complete in 2018.

Glass Installation Wraps Up On 52-Story 10 Hudson Yards Office Tower

YIMBY last reported on 10 Hudson Yards – the 52-story, 1.8-million square-foot office tower at the corner of Tenth Avenue and West 30th Street – last November when the structure officially topped out. Now, new photos taken by Tectonic show that glass installation is nearing completion and close to reaching the structure’s 895-foot-tall pinnacle. Earlier this month, office space in the building was roughly 100 percent leased, as Real Estate Weekly reported. Coach Inc. will occupy floors nine through 23 and part of 24, VaynerMedia will take the rest of floors 24 and 25, Intersection and Sidewalk Labs will take floor 26 and part of floor 27, L’Oréal USA will occupy the rest of 27 and floors 28 through 36, the Boston Consulting Group is leasing floors 42 through 47, and finally SAP is taking floors 48 through 52. Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group are the developers and Kohn Pedersen Fox is the design architect. Occupancy is expected in the spring.

Thomas Heatherwick’s Hudson Yards Sculpture Now Under Construction

According to The New York Times, UK-based Thomas Heatherwick’s Hudson Yards centerpiece is now under construction. A source who has seen the design described it as resembling the shape of a chalice, rising higher than the 100-foot-tall Culture Shed, which YIMBY unveiled in 2013. The sculpture does not require public review, and Related Companies and Oxford Properties are developing.
