Foster + Partners, Epstein Announced as Architectural Advisors for Port Authority’s Midtown Bus Terminal in Times Square, Manhattan

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has selected Foster + Partners and Epstein to help reimagine Manhattan’s 72-year-old Midtown Bus Terminal in Times Square. The replacement project will create a new terminal for New York City buses, dedicated spaces for intercity buses, staging areas, electric vehicle charging stations, outward-facing retail, and 3.5 acres of public green space.

Work on the white marble and glass façade of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church is bringing the long-awaited project closer to completion in the Financial District. Designed by Santiago Calatrava and developed by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the reinforced concrete structure sits atop the eastern end of Liberty Park by the intersection of Greenwich and Liberty Streets. The ground floor rests on the elevated park space, which itself serves as the roof for the southern entrance and exit of the vehicle security center for the World Trade Center complex.

Terminal C, Delta’s new dedicated terminal, is now complete and open for business at LaGuardia Airport. The $4 billion terminal spans 1.3 million square feet and represents Delta’s largest-ever airport investment. New facilities include 37 gates, 36 full-service check-in counters, 49 self-service kiosks, 16 bag drop counters, 11 security screening lanes with room for five additional lanes in the future, and 13 restrooms.

Designed by Santiago Calatrava and developed by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the reinforced concrete structure sits atop Liberty Park by the intersection of Greenwich and Liberty Streets. The ground floor of the religious facility is adjacent to the elevated park space and also rests on the roof of the vehicle security center for the subterranean ramps that run beneath the World Trade Center.

On December 13, Governor Kathy Hochul officially announced the project, which will include major infrastructure upgrades, the replacement of several aging terminals, new retail destinations, security improvements, and sustainability enhancements.
