Racebrook Capital has begun construction of the nearly 200,000 square-foot animal transportation facility, dubbed “The Ark”, at John F. Kennedy International Airport, in Queens, per the Commercial Observer. Abandoned Building 78 is being converted into the facility, and Gensler, along with other partners, is designing. The $48 million project is expected to open in late 2016.
The burgeoning new immigrant population in Woodside, Jackson Heights and Corona has driven a small construction boom in those neighborhoods, and one developer has decided to capitalize on the area’s growth with an eight-story hotel at 64-06 Queens Boulevard in Woodside.
On Tuesday. the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to designate the former Bank of Manhattan Company Building at 29-27 Queens Plaza North, in Long Island City, as an individual landmark, preserving it for generations to come. The developer of what is expected to be the borough’s tallest building (and the new tallest building outside Manhattan), which will be next door, already plans to work with the landmark structure.
Beneath the elevated N/Q tracks in Astoria, a seven-story mixed-use building will likely replace a little two-story walk-up apartment building squeezed between Hoyt Playground and a squat MTA building on 31st Street.
RockAllTheWay LLC has filed applications for a single-story, 7,835 square-foot commercial building at the largely vacant lot 2-08 Beach 98th Street, in Seaside. The building will house a restaurant, and Hustvedt Cutler Architects is designing.
