YIMBY Visits 277 Fifth Avenue As Façade Nears Completion

Construction at 277 Fifth Avenue is moving along quickly, with just thirteen floors of façade installation remaining. Victor Group and Lendlease are developing the 55-story skyscraper in NoMad, on the corner of 30th Street. The tower, designed by Rafael Vinoly Architects, has a dark-indigo façade made of reinforced cast-concrete panels, fabricated in Finland. Multi-layered glazed curtain walls were designed for optimal thermal and acoustical performance, and there is also a cantilever over its southern neighbor.

YIMBY Tours Waterline Square as Completion Nears, Upper West Side

Façade installation is coming to an end for Waterline Square, a five-acre project overlooking the Hudson River. The three towers are being constructed simultaneously so that residents will have the benefit of moving into a finished mini-neighborhood inside the Upper West Side. Once complete, a lush public space will unite the residential buildings and retail center, containing several eateries. GID Development Group is responsible for the venture.

Viñoly-Designed 277 Fifth Avenue Officially Tops Out At 55 Floors and 663 Feet in NoMad

The Rafael Viñoly-designed 277 Fifth Avenue, in NoMad, has officially topped out. Our last look at the tower was on December 26^th, 2017, when we were given a tour of the sales gallery and the 46th floor, which at that time, was the highest level. With the superstructure now spanning its full 55 stories, about twenty floors of cladding remain before the exterior is complete.

Rooftop Views & Interior Update on Supertall 175 Greenwich Street, aka 3 World Trade Center, As Opening Day Approaches

Last week, YIMBY was taken on a tour of 175 Greenwich Street, aka 3 World Trade Center, visiting the rooftop, the terrace, and the lobby. The building, located in the heart of the Financial District, has made incredible progress, with the façade now complete save for windows connected to the exterior hoist. Interior work is also approaching the finish line.

Viñoly’s Jetsons-Esque Skyscraper at 249 East 62nd Street Revealed, Upper East Side

Rafael Viñoly has become one of the more prominent designers of Manhattan’s residential real estate in recent years, and today, YIMBY has the first rendering for the architect’s latest skyscraper, at 249 East 62nd Street on the Upper East Side. While the tower will technically comprise only 32 floors, it will stand 510 feet to its rooftop, taking advantage of a Jetsons-esque podium to boost its upper levels high into the neighborhood skyline.

Now, the trio of residential high-rises has officially topped-out, and the latest photos show that the former chasm of urbanity is rapidly transforming into an attractive component of the neighborhood at large.

The southwestern blocks of the Upper West Side have been in a state of constant flux over the past few years, with several major developments either wrapping up or breaking ground across the last wide-open spaces remaining in the neighborhood. Perhaps the largest project within this area is GID Development’s Waterline Square, formerly known as Riverside Center, where construction on three new buildings is now pushing upwards and into the skyline.

YIMBY recently revealed the latest images for 125 Greenwich Street, which has continued to see minor modifications to its design. Though the tower’s foundation work has been completed for about two years, the site has sat fallow while searching for financing. The refreshed renderings came with recent news that the project secured a $450 million construction loan, and now, with financing secured and the plans for the building finalized, rebar is finally rising.

Downtown’s condominium boom has so far resulted in several near-supertall towers, with 56 Leonard and 30 Park Place both topping-out in the past few years. Further south, 45 Broad Street promises to become the Financial District’s first legitimate residential supertall, while plans at 125 Greenwich Street have also been advancing. The latter site had previously been anticipated to rise almost 1,400 feet, but after the departure of Michael Shvo from the development team, plans have taken several major turns. Now, Bizzi & Partners has released renderings and filed plans revealing the final design, which will top out 912 feet above the streets below.

East River Esplanade Shut Until End of March for Rockefeller University Expansion Work

Effective today, a multi-block stretch of the East River Esplanade is closed temporarily as work is undertaken for the expansion of Rockefeller University’s Upper East Side campus. All pedestrians and cyclists will be unable to access the stretch between East 63rd and 68th streets, from Monday, February 13 to Friday, March 31.
