It’s time for the yearly Design Challenge competition by Metals in Construction magazine, a publication of the Steel and Ornamental Metal Institutes of New York. The goal each year is to generate ideas about the role of architecture in helping to solve social problems. This year the challenge with a $15,000 grand prize is to redevelop a New York City office tower for market-rate housing.
Construction is ramping up on 262 Fifth Avenue, a 1,000-foot residential supertall in NoMad, where the tower crane has just completed assembly. Designed by Meganom with SLCE Architects as the executive architect and developed by Boris Kuzinez of Five Points Development under the Five Points 262 Project LLC, the 54-story skyscraper will yield 41 condominium units. WSP is the structural and M.E.P. engineer and CM & Associates Construction Management is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the southwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 29th Street.
Fine Properties New York this week closed on a $35 million loan to complete The Elisa at 251 West 14th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by Brazilian architect Isay Weinfeld with HTO Architect, the ground-up condominium building stands 11 stories tall and will include 25 homes and a collection of amenities.
Permits have been filed for a six-story residential building at 2758 Creston Avenue in Fordham, The Bronx. Located between East 196th and East 197th Streets, the lot is within walking distance of the Kingsbridge Road subway station, serviced by the B and D trains. Andrea Gjini under the 781-783 Elsmere Place is listed as the owner behind the applications.
Slate Property Group and Avenue Realty Capital have closed on a $55 million loan to complete a 19-story residential building at 159 Boerum Street in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Aufgang Architects, the 80,000-square-foot structure will yield 120 units, with 19 reserved for affordable housing. Amenities will include a fitness center, a roof deck, a parking garage, and bike storage. The property is located between Graham Avenue and Humboldt Street.
