The Durst Organization Files for Retail at 29-23 Queens Plaza North, Long Island City

The Durst Organization acquired the development site surrounding and including 27-29 Queens Plaza North last December for $173.5 million, and while SLCE Architects had previously conceived plans for a tower nearing supertall status, the design now appears to be changing. Handel Architects has filed for permits for a two-story retail building that will rise at 29-23 Queens Plaza North, on the southwestern corner of the site, which will have a total construction area of just over 20,000 square feet. There will be 10,333 square feet of commercial space within, and the structure will rise 41 feet to its rooftop.

The new Marriott Edition Hotel coming to 701 Seventh Avenue, in Times Square, is approaching its opening day, with glass now covering most of the exterior per the latest photos from Tectonic. While the tower portion of the development stands 42 floors and 512 feet to the rooftop, barely cracking into the mid-levels of the Midtown skyscraper plateau, the base of the development will imminently become iconic on a global level, thanks to an 18,000 square-foot LED screen that promises to become the largest and brightest in Times Square.

Reveal for 50 Hudson Street, Vertical Expansion Coming to Tribeca

Yesterday, YIMBY reported on the first renderings to surface for the site at 540-544 Hudson Street, at the corner of Hudson and Charles in the West Village. Today, we have a look at another project a few dozen blocks to the south, at 50 Hudson Street. The site is located in Tribeca on the corner of Thomas Street, and the impending vertical addition will also have to receive Landmarks approval before construction can begin.

Updated Design For 6208 8th Avenue, Major Development Coming to Sunset Park, Brooklyn

Back in 2014, YIMBY reported on the unveiling of plans for a massive new mixed-use project at 6208 8th Avenue, in Brooklyn. The site lies on the boundary of Sunset Park and Dyker Heights, and in November of 2014, Community Board 10 voted against recommending the project move forward (though that is ultimately only advisory to City Planning). Three years later, work has yet to begin, but the plans have now seen major adjustments and a complete reconfiguration.
