Second Round of Long Island City’s Skyscraper Boom Gets Underway as Durst’s 67-Story Queens Plaza Park Begins Rising at 27-29 Queens Plaza North

Located in Long Island City at 27-29 Queens Plaza North, Queens Plaza Park will soon be one of the tallest skyscrapers in both Queens and New York City. It is also addressed as 29-37 41st Avenue. The 755-foot-tall, 67-story tower is nearing completion of its concrete foundations, and vertical ascent should begin sometime in the first half of 2019. A new updated design by Handel Architects was revealed back in April, and features a concave-shaped glass building. Selldorf Architects is designing the interiors while The Durst Organization is in charge of developing the 978,000 square foot tower.

The Frick Reveals Updates to Proposed Expansion on the Upper East Side

Following multiple public bids to update and expand Manhattan’s Frick Collection, the museum will again present development plans to the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) in hopes of approval. Architect Annabelle Selldorf will still oversee design of the expansion in collaboration with architects of record, Beyer Blinder Belle.

The Frick Collection will again present expansion proposals to the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) in a hearing scheduled for Tuesday, May 29. Following widespread public outcry and eventual LPC disapproval in 2014, the new plans increase the building’s aboveground area by about 10 percent, relocate a portion of the collection below ground, create a new auditorium and visual entertainment areas, and increase accessibility for people in wheelchairs and mobility-impaired visitors.

Façade Installation Begins for 21 East 12th Street, Greenwich Village, Manhattan

Four months after the structure topped out, we have an update for construction at 21 East 12^th Street in the Greenwich Village, Manhattan. Installation of the façade is underway, having now reached up to the fifth floor.

The blocks between Greenwich Village and Union Square have seen several developments rise over the past few years, especially on East 12th Street, between Fifth Avenue and University Place. While NIMBYs are attempting to pass another rezoning to restrict new construction even further, that will not stop progress at 21 East 12th Street, which has now officially topped-out.

Since topping out early this year, exterior work is now nearing completion on the tower portion of the 13-story, five-unit mixed-use project at 347 Bowery, located on the corner of East 3rd Street in the East Village. Reveal for Swiss Institute’s New Two-Story, 7,500-Square-Foot Headquarters at 130 Second Avenue, East Village

In September of 2015, Stellar Management acquired, for $12 million, the two-story, 7,500-square-foot commercial building at 130 Second Avenue. That’s located on the corner of St. Marks Place in the East Village. It has now been revealed that Stellar will renovate the existing building, formerly occupied by a Chase bank branch. It will become the headquarters of the currently TriBeCa-based non-profit art organization Swiss Institute, Curbed NY reported. Besides upgraded office space, new elements will include event spaces, a library, a bookstore, and a rooftop terrace. Selldorf Architects is designing the renovation and completion is expected in 2017.

First Look at 21 East 12th Street, the 23-Story Condo Tower Replacing Bowlmor Lanes

William Macklowe Company is getting ready to start construction and launch sales for its 23-story condo tower at the corner of University Place and East 12th Street in the Village. Landmarks Okays Commercial Renovation at 348 Lafayette Street, NoHo

A former animal hospital in NoHo is set to see a commercial revitalization. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved a revised renovation plan for the building at 348 Lafayette Street, which occupies 348-354 Lafayette Street and is also known as 11-13 Bond Street. The building dates back to 1913 and is now in the NoHo Historic District.
