Finishing Touches Underway on 111 West 57th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

The finishing exterior touches are underway on 111 West 57th Street, a 1,428-foot supertall residential skyscraper in Midtown and the world’s most slender building with a height-to-width ratio of 24:1. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS DevelopmentProperty Markets Group, and Spruce Capital Partners, 111 West 57th Street will yield 60 units designed by Studio Sofield and marketed by Douglas Elliman Development Marketing. The project is located on Billionaires’ Row between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, and is almost perfectly aligned with the center line of Central Park.

9 DeKalb Avenue Becomes Tallest Structure in Brooklyn

9 DeKalb Avenue has passed a milestone in its way to becoming the first supertall skyscraper in the outer boroughs. The 93-story residential tower recently surpassed the 720-foot roof height of Brooklyn Point, giving it the title of the tallest structure in Brooklyn. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS, 9 DeKalb Avenue will stand 1,066 feet tall and yield 450 rental apartments and 150 condominiums. The site is bound by Flatbush Avenue Extension to the northeast, Fleet Street to the northwest, the landmark Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn to the southwest, and DeKalb Avenue to the south.

Foundations Progress for FIT’s New Academic Building at 220 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan

Excavation and foundation work are progressing on Fashion Institute of Technology‘s New Academic Building at 220 West 28th Street in the Garment District of Chelsea. Designed by SHoP Architects, the ten-story, 110,000-square-foot structure is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, within walking distance of Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, and Moynihan Train Hall. The New Academic Building is aiming for LEED Gold certification.

Now, the construction crane is rapidly being disassembled from the southern face of the world’s most slender structure. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS DevelopmentProperty Markets Group, and Spruce Capital Partners, 111 West 57th Street features a height-to-width ratio of 24:1 and will yield 60 units designed by Studio Sofield and marketed by Douglas Elliman Development Marketing. Domino Sugar Refinery Prepares for Office Conversion at 292 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Construction work is ramping up for the office conversion of the 140-year-old Domino Sugar Refinery at 292 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU) and developed by Two Trees, the project is the centerpiece of the Domino Sugar master plan by SHoP Architects and James Corner Field Operations and involves the construction of a massive barrel-vaulted glass roof atop the former factory. When complete, the structure will top out at 235 feet tall, while the interiors will be gutted and restored. Levels one through four, as well as 14 and 15 will have their ceiling spans increased, and the 16th floor will be eliminated.
