The development is located on the shores of Hudson River and includes Harborside buildings 1, 2, and 3, a trio of low-rise office buildings that will be fully renovated for the modern office tenant.

200 Amsterdam Avenue Prevails Against NIMBYs in Appellate Ruling, on Manhattan’s Upper West Side

Yesterday the New York State’s Appellate Division, First Department, unanimously ruled in favor of 200 Amsterdam Avenue‘s developers, SJP Properties and Mitsui Fudosan America, and the construction of the Upper West Side’s current tallest skyscraper. The First Department ruling affirmed the building permits for the Elkus Manfredi Architects-designed structure, which stands 668 feet tall. It also serves as a win for the City of New York, while overturning the lower court’s February 2020 trial court ruling, which had sought to retroactively apply a draft zoning interpretation calling for a reduction in height for the 52-story tower.

200 Amsterdam Avenue’s Exterior Nears Completion, on the Upper West Side

Exterior work is nearing completion on 200 Amsterdam Avenue, the Upper West Side’s current tallest skyscraper and number 22 on our countdown of the tallest projects underway in the city. Designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects and developed by SJP Properties and Mitsui Fudosan America, the 668-foot-tall, 52-story structure will yield 283,000 square feet with interior design by CetraRuddy. The tower was the subject of intense NIMBY opposition earlier this year, culminating in a State Supreme Court ruling calling for a possible height reduction of 20 or more floors. However, the developers appealed the decision and construction continued as planned.

Work Begins on 200 Amsterdam’s Crown, on the Upper West Side

Façade work has reached the crown of 200 Amsterdam Avenue, the Upper West Side’s tallest skyscraper. The 52-story, 283,000-square-foot project is being developed by SJP Properties and Mitsui Fudosan America and is designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects with CetraRuddy as the interior designer. Despite heated opposition from NIMBY civic organizations led by the Municipal Arts Society and a ruling by a Supreme State Court Judge that could lead to a reduction of 20 or more floors from the top half of the structure, construction is still continuing as planned.
