City officials recently celebrated the commencement of construction on a new public health laboratory and contagion testing center at 40 West 137th Street in Harlem. The facility will serve as headquarters for New York City Public Health Laboratory and will be operated by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
Permits have been filed for a 40-story office tower at 415 Madison Avenue in Midtown East, Manhattan. Located at the intersection of East 48th Street and Madison Avenue, the lot is within walking distance of the Grand Central subway station, serviced by the 4, 5, 6, and 7 trains. Albert Sanfilippo of Rudin Management is listed as the owner behind the applications which sought special permits through ULURP for the overbuilt floor area for air rights from the landmarked St. Bartholomew’s Church along Park Avenue.
Construction is taking shape on the High Line Moynihan Connector, a nearly 1,200-foot-long extension of the High Line that will connect the elevated park with the five-building Manhattan West complex in Midtown West. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in collaboration with James Corner Field Operations, the connector will comprise two 600-foot-long bridges built by Turner Construction Company. Work is proceeding under a $50 million public-private partnership between Empire State Development (ESD), Friends of the High Line, and Brookfield Properties, and will culminate in easier access to Moynihan Train Hall and Penn Station. The connector runs along West 30th Street between Ninth and Tenth Avenues and turns 90 degrees to the north at Dyer Avenue to reach the Manhattan West plaza above West 31st Street.
Façade work is nearing completion on Two Manhattan West, a 58-story commercial skyscraper in the Manhattan West master plan in Midtown West. Designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by Brookfield, the 935-foot-tall tower will yield 2 million square feet of office space and is engineered to achieve LEED Gold Certification. W&W Glass is the facade contractor and AECOM Tishman is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the corner of West 31st Street and Ninth Avenue, directly to the south of its taller fraternal twin, One Manhattan West. YIMBY last announced that Cravath, Swaine & Moore has signed on as the flagship tenant for the building.
Construction has topped out on Four Hudson Square, The Walt Disney Company’s new 22-story headquarters in Hudson Square. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and developed by Silverstein Properties, the 338-foot-tall building will yield 1.2 million square feet of offices, film and production studios, and ground-floor retail space. Lendlease is the contractor for the property, which is alternatively addressed as 137 Varick Street and occupies a full-block parcel bound by Varick Street to the east, Spring Street to the south, Hudson Street to the west, and Vandam Street to the north.
