One Vanderbilt’s 1,401-Foot Pinnacle Set To Be Reached Later Today As Spire Installation Commences, in Midtown East

On Monday, YIMBY reported that One Vanderbilt’s crown is now structurally finished. Only two days later, the rest of the spire is almost complete for the 1,401-foot high supertall, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by SL Green. Remaining sections for the 100-foot-tall spire have arrived on site, and were spotted on the eastern side of the property along Vanderbilt Avenue, as the initial components were lifted into place and installed atop the tower yesterday afternoon. Full completion of the spire is likely later today.

One Vanderbilt has reached a huge milestone as construction has topped out on the supertall commercial skyscraper’s tiered steel crown. Workers will soon begin assembly of the 100-foot-tall architectural spire, which will bring the project’s total height to 1,401 feet. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by SL Green, the 77-story Midtown East tower will have a three-story indoor and outdoor public observatory situated at 1,020 feet above street level. Construction of the spire could conceivably finish before the end of the week, given the tremendous speed with which One Vanderbilt has shot upward into the sky.

The upcoming 77-story supertall office skyscraper is designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by SL Green. The tapering steel structure will soon terminate in a staggered, illuminated crown topped with an architectural spire that will push the project’s total height to 1,401 feet.

YIMBY went to check on the construction progress at 185 Broadway, a new 31-story residential tower in the Financial District designed by FXCollaborative and developed by SL Green. The 260,000-square-foot mixed-use tower is located at the southwestern corner of Dey Street and Broadway, directly next to one of the entrances to the Fulton Street subway station. Pilings and excavation are currently happening.

COOKFOX Returns to LPC With Alterations for Armani Flagship at 760 Madison Avenue

This week, COOKFOX Architects appeared before the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission with proposals to alter previously approved designs for the new Giorgio Armani flagship boutique and residences. Located at 760 Madison Avenue on the corner of East 65th Street, the new development will rise 12 stories. The Armani boutique will occupy the lower levels of the structure with 19 residences positioned above. Alterations pertain exclusively to the exterior massing and materials of the building’s façade and were reportedly inspired by existing historic properties in the surrounding Upper East Side neighborhood.
