The journey from Midtown, Manhattan to Staten Island just got easier following the launch of a new NYC Ferry line connecting the two boroughs. The ferry, which costs the equivalent of a single-swipe subway fare, now stops in Midtown at West 39th Street, Vesey Street in Battery Park City, and the St. George Ferry Terminal in Staten Island.
Empire State Development, a New York State-funded economic development agency, is now seeking funding from the United States Department of Transportation to complete a new offshore wind staging and assembly port in Staten Island.
Population in New York City reached 8.8 million in 2020, an increase of 629,000 since 2010, according to new data released by The Census Bureau. The 2020 census was the 24th count and the first time that households could respond to the census online, a change many are touting led to more accurate data.
Proposals now under review by the Department of City Planning reveal a new retail building and the enlargement of two existing buildings within Staten Island’s Tysens Park Shopping Center. Located at 2712 Hylan Boulevard, the Tysens Park Shopping Center occupies 12.5 acres or approximately 546,000 square feet. The property comprises eight single-story commercial buildings and 731 accessory off-street parking spaces.
Permits have been filed for a three-story school building at 348 Deisius Street in Prince’s Bay, Staten Island. Located at the intersection of Deisius Street and Kingdom Avenue, the corner lot is within walking distance of the Staten Island Rail Huguenot station. Dean Johanson of the New York City School Construction Authority is listed as the owner behind the applications.
