Sneak Peak at Facade & Construction Update for 217 West 57th Street, aka Nordstrom Tower

YIMBY has brought you continual updates on the progress of Extell’s 217 West 57th Street, a.k.a. Nordstrom Tower (officially Central Park Tower), and now we have the first photos of what the facade for the building will actually look like, as well as an update on progress. The image comes from an anonymous tipster and shows the glass that will appear over the top of the Nordstrom floors, crowning the retail podium in a series of undulating curves, and demarcating the boundary between the pedestrian realm and the supertall that will cantilever up above.

Final Renderings for 220 Central Park South Show Slight Design Changes

Back in May of 2015, YIMBY posted renderings from SLCE Architects featuring the Robert A.M. Stern Architects-designed 220 Central Park South. Since then, construction on the building has made major headway, with the structure now reaching past its tenth floor, and now we can post the building’s final look, thanks to an ad placed by developer Vornado in REBNY’s new booklet.

Reveal For Nine-Story, 150,000 Square-Foot Office Building At 61 Ninth Avenue, Chelsea

In the first half of 2015, YIMBY reported on filings for a nine-story, mixed-use commercial building at 61 9th Avenue, on the corner of West 15th Street in Chelsea, and now Crain’s has the first rendering of the project. The entire structure will measure 153,754 square feet in total, and there will be 115,000 and 37,000 square feet of boutique office and retail space, respectively. Retail will be located on the cellar through the second floor. Rafael Viñoly is behind the design, and Vornado Realty Trust and Aurora Capital are developing. Demolition permits were filed in December to remove the existing lumber shop and billboard sign. Groundbreaking is expected in mid-2016, with completion scheduled for early 2018.



20 Broad Street

Residential Conversion Planned At 20 Broad Street, 27-Story Office Building In Financial District

Back in August, Vornado Realty Trust mulled the idea of a residential conversion at the 27-story, 473,000 square-foot office building at 20 Broad Street, in the Financial District. Now, Nathan Berman is purchasing the leasehold from Vornado and reportedly following through with the conversion to rental apartments, per Crain’s. The New York Stock Exchange — expected to vacate the structure next August — owns the land under the building, and the lease expires in 2081.
