Renderings Revealed for 1932 Bryant Avenue, West Farms, The Bronx

Today, YIMBY has the reveal for renderings of a 15-story affordable housing development at 1932 Bryant Avenue, in The Bronx’s West Farms neighborhood. The site will yield 319 affordable apartments just two blocks away from the West Farms Square Subway Station, which is serviced by the 2 and 5 trains. The Bronx Zoo is also nearby, in the same park as the New York Botanical Garden. Second Farms Neighborhood Housing is responsible for the development.

2145 Mohegan Avenue

Five-Story, 15-Unit Residential Building Filed at 2145 Mohegan Avenue, West Farms

Bronx-based Midtown Interior Resource, a general contractor, has filed applications for a five-story, 15-unit residential project at 2145 Mohegan Avenue, located on the corner of Hornaday Place in the West Farms section of the Bronx. The new building will measure 13,845 square feet and its residential units should average 706 square feet apiece, indicative of rental apartments. Mohammad R. Badaly’s Mount Vernon, N.Y.-based firm is the architect of record. The 3,163-square-foot plot is occupied by a one-and-a-half-story house. Demolition permits have not been filed.

Seven Stories of Apartments Planned for 2015 Vyse Avenue in West Farms

West Farms, in the central Bronx, has long been neglected and forgotten by the city. Robert Moses rammed the Cross Bronx Expressway through the area half a century ago, isolating a broad swath of working class communities from the rest of the borough. And the Bronx River, which splits the neighborhood in two, was contaminated by industrial runoff and filled with trash until community groups began cleaning it up the late ’90s. But developers are finally starting to look closely at the working class, black and Latino neighborhood. Mikjor Shllaku, who heads a plumbing company next door in Van Nest, hopes to build a seven-story apartment building at 2015 Vyse Avenue.
