A former garage in the West Village is yet again set to make way for new development. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the demolition of the two-story building at 145 Perry Street, a.k.a. 703-711 Washington Street. In its place will be an apartment building and a mega-mansion.
Excavation work has begun on the site of a 17-unit residential development at 111 Leroy Street, located on the corner of Greenwich Street in the West Village. The project will consist of a 10-story, 12-unit mixed-use building at 111 Leroy Street, in addition to five single-family townhouses at 115-121 Leroy Street and 621 Greenwich Street.
It was nearly seven months ago that the Landmarks Preservation Commission first heard a proposal to construct a six-story apartment building where a two-story garage building currently sits in the West Village. That process was met with opposition from the public and failed to gain approval from the LPC. The process for deciding the future of 11-19 Jane Street continued on Tuesday, but again with no resolution.
It has been over three months since we checked in on nightclub impresario turned real estate developer Ian Schrager’s residential building under construction at 160 Leroy Street, in the West Village. Since then, much has been accomplished.
Last Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved work to allow the single-family conversion of 38 Bethune Street. While some West Village garage conversions before the LPC recently have been contentious, this project was not controversial.
