101 Murray Bites the Dust and 111 Murray Street Rises Skyward in Ever-Changing West Tribeca

As befitting one of the planet’s key engines of economic and cultural motion, New York City exists in a state of constant change. This is particularly true for the city’s older, centrally located neighborhoods, such as TriBeCa. Over the past two centuries, its western portion along West Street has been repeatedly transformed beyond recognition, particularly by the 1960s urban renewal program that completely cleared dozens of formerly-vibrant blocks. But even there, a 32-year building life span is short by any measure.

New Renderings of Herzog & de Meuron’s Plans for 36 Central Park South, aka 1 Park Lane

Last month, YIMBY posted the first renderings for the tower coming to 36 Central Park South, on the site of the old Helmsley Hotel. The first version was created by Handel Architects, and the second — which we only had a glimpse of — was designed by Herzog & de Meuron, and we now have additional images of that version.

New Renderings Of 58-Story, 157-Unit Luxury Tower At 111 Murray Street, Tribeca

New renderings have surfaced of the planned 58-story, 157-unit luxury tower at 111 Murray Street, in southern Tribeca, which is being developed by Witkoff, Fisher Brothers and New Valley. The building is planned to have nearly 2,100 square feet of retail, and a 10,000 square-foot landscaped plaza, according to The New York Times.

28-Story Hotel & Condo Tower Under Construction at 215 Chrystie Street, Lower East Side

Last summer, YIMBY brought you renderings of 215 Chrystie Street, a 28-story, 370-hotel-room mixed-use tower now under construction on the Lower East Side. According to Bowery Boogie, concrete and rebar are up to the second floor. Ian Schrager and Witkoff are developing, and Herzog & de Meuron is the design architect. Completion is scheduled for late 2016.

62-Story, 157-Unit Luxury Tower To Stand 822 Feet Tall At 111 Murray Street, Tribeca

Witkoff Group’s and Fisher Brothers’ Kohn Pedersen Fox-designed luxury tower, planned for Tribeca at 101-111 Murray Street, has been amended to have 157 residential units, up from 139 stated in the original application. Despite an erroneous report, YIMBY has news that the 62-story tower will actually stand 822 feet above the street, merely 35 feet below the outdated 857-foot proposal. The 372,000 square-foot building will include a nearly 2,100 square-foot retail portion on the ground floor, and completion is expected in 2017.

New Views, Interiors, Possible Herzog and de Meuron Design for 1 Park Lane, aka 36 Central Park South

Last week, YIMBY revealed the exteriors for 1 Park Lane, which has an actual address of 36 Central Park South, the site of the current Helmsley Park Lane. While we speculated that Vinoly designed the building, we learned that Handel Architects was in fact behind the renderings; we have also obtained a new set of images which include that version of the project’s interiors and views, which will be very impressive.

Chinese Insurance Company Funds 62-Story Luxury Residential Building At 111 Murray Street, Tribeca

The developers of a 62-story, 139-unit mixed-use tower at 101-111 Murray Street, in Tribeca, have reportedly found financing, valued in the hundreds of millions, from a Chinese insurance company. YIMBY confirmed in March that 111 Murray Street will rise 857 feet tall, but first revealed the design in June of 2014. Witkoff Group and Fisher Brothers are developing; Kohn Pedersen Fox is designing. The site’s predecessor has now been demolished, and completion is expected in 2017.
