Edge observation deck, the most anticipated public-facing component of the Hudson Yards megaproject, is finally open. Perched 1,131 feet above Tenth Avenue on the 100th floor of Kohn Pedersen Fox’s 30 Hudson Yards, Edge galvanizes the new mixed-use neighborhood with an attraction unlike any other in New York.
SHoP Architects‘ 111 West 57th Street recently reached another milestone as work has commenced on the installation of the transparent paneling on the supertall’s steel crown. This is the final major external component of the world’s most slender skyscraper, which is developed by JDS Development, Property Markets Group, and Spruce Capital Partners. The 1,428-foot-tall tower will contain 46 condominiums designed by Studio Sofield and marketed by Douglas Elliman.
YIMBY’s 2019 New Building Report, released this time last year, showed a major jump in applications from 2017 into 2018, with new residential units filed with the Department of Buildings rising from 20,393 to 34,039. YIMBY’s 2020 New Construction Report shows that citywide gains continued into 2019, with total units filed increasing to 36,467, a jump of 2,428 or 7.1%. Demolition work is continuing at 270 Park Avenue, where JP Morgan Chase is tearing down its current 707-foot-tall headquarters to construct a new 1,425-foot-tall, 2.5-million-square-foot home. Designed by Foster + Partners, the future Midtown East supertall is the fifth-tallest project underway in New York City.
