At noon today, New York’s newest neighborhood will ceremonially open for business. Hudson Yards‘ first public-facing attractions—the Shops & Restaurants and Thomas Heatherwick’s interactive sculpture Vessel—will welcome the crowds that have watched patiently from afar as the project’s soaring, glass-sheathed towers have transformed the skyline. Elkus Manfredi Architects is the designer of the seven-story retail center, of which Neiman Marcus is the anchor tenant. The city’s largest indoor shopping mall with more than 100 stores, it features 720,000 leasable square feet with nearly 85 percent of the space already occupied.

Permits Filed For 4720 Third Avenue in Belmont, The Bronx

Permits have been recently filed for a new nine-story mixed-use residential and commercial building at 4720 Third Avenue in Belmont, The Bronx. Ismael Leyva Architects is the designer of the nearly 190,500-square-foot project. Canas Solutions, Inc. is the filing representative while Cactus Holdings, Inc. is the owner of the 35,606-square-foot site. The project sits on a corner lot and is located south of Fordham University. It also sits very close to the Fordham Metro-North train station. The B and D train can be accessed at the Fordham Road subway station, which is only five minutes to the west.

Permits Filed For 13-38 Central Avenue in Far Rockaway, Queens

Permits have been filed for a nine-story mixed-use residential and commercial building at 13-28 Central Avenue in Far Rockaway, Queens. The 42,758-square foot lot is located at the intersection of Central Avenue and Nameoke Street. The proposed scope for the new project is around 195,000 square feet. The site is close to the Far Rockaway – Mott Avenue subway station at the end of the A line. Ericka Keller-Wala of Brisa MPB Community Square LLC is listed as the owner of the site. Paul Castrucci Architect is listed as the designer, while William Vitacco Associates, LTD filed the permits.

Permits have been filed for two major new towers at 57-28 2nd Street and 1-15 57th Avenue in Hunters Point South. The two proposed, glass residential buildings are being designed by Handel Architects and will sit at the intersection of 57th Avenue and 2nd Street. The sites are located in Long Island City by the Hunters Point South ferry terminal. Both towers are being developed by Gotham and Riseboro Community Partnership.

One Willoughby Square Begins Vertical Ascent Above Downtown Brooklyn

Located in Downtown Brooklyn, One Willoughby Square, aka 420 Albee Square, is going to be a new 500,000-square foot Class-A office tower. The 18,000-square foot site is situated across the street from City Point and Brooklyn Point. As of now, work on the 34-story, 495-foot tall development is climbing above the fifth floor. It is being designed by FXCollaborative and bring developed by JEMB Realty. Gilbane is in charge of construction.
