First New Gates Open for LaGuardia Airport’s $8 Billion Redevelopment

Earlier this month, the Eastern Concourse in LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B opened its first new gates to the public. The revamp is part one of an $8 billion, 2.7 million square foot redevelopment at one of the nation’s busiest airports, which also includes a rebuild of Terminal C. In undertaking this multi-phase construction plan, LGA had to remain fully operational to their 30-million passengers a year. Old facilities were demolished only as new facilities were completed, ensuring the airport never loses capacity. When complete, LGA will be the first new airport built in the country in more than 25 years.

Second Round of Long Island City’s Skyscraper Boom Gets Underway as Durst’s 67-Story Queens Plaza Park Begins Rising at 27-29 Queens Plaza North

Located in Long Island City at 27-29 Queens Plaza North, Queens Plaza Park will soon be one of the tallest skyscrapers in both Queens and New York City. It is also addressed as 29-37 41st Avenue. The 755-foot-tall, 67-story tower is nearing completion of its concrete foundations, and vertical ascent should begin sometime in the first half of 2019. A new updated design by Handel Architects was revealed back in April, and features a concave-shaped glass building. Selldorf Architects is designing the interiors while The Durst Organization is in charge of developing the 978,000 square foot tower.

SL Green Reveals Major Addition Atop One Madison Avenue, Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox

In a major reveal, SL Green Realty has announced its plans to redevelop and expand their existing 13-story office building at One Madison Avenue. From architects Kohn Pedersen Fox, new designs include 18 new floors of Class-A office space, tenant amenities, and more than an acre of outdoor terraces.

New Commercial Building Coming to 5002 Flatlands Avenue in Flatlands, Brooklyn

Permits have been filed for a one-story commercial building at 5002 Flatlands Avenue, in Flatlands, Brooklyn. Located between Utica Avenue and East 51st Street, the corner site is situated directly on Flatlands Avenue. Subway access is limited, and the closest station is the Flatbush Avenue station serviced by the 2 train, is well over a mile away. David Koptiev of Gabriel Development Corp. is listed as the owner behind the applications.

LPC to Review Modifications to 38 Greene Street’s Penthouse Addition, SoHo

Zar Property NY has returned to the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission with new applications to construct an elevator bulkhead and landing for 38 Green Street‘s innovative penthouse expansion.

Renderings Revealed for 185 Broadway, SL Green’s 31-Story Residential Tower Coming to The Financial District

New renderings have been revealed for 185 Broadway, which is imminently set to rise in Lower Manhattan. Designed by FX Collaborative Architects and developed by SL Green, the 31-story, 260,000 square foot, mixed-use and partially affordable building has had its site prep completed, as demolition of three previously extant low-rise structures at 183 Broadway, 187 Broadway, and 5-7 Dey Street has fully wrapped. Necessary air rights and financing to begin construction have also been obtained, and work is anticipated to start in the first quarter of 2019.

770,000-Square Foot Grand Logistics Center Coming 56-19 Grand Avenue in Maspeth, Queens

LBA Logistics and RXR Realty have big plans for a 770,000-square foot, multistory logistics center in Maspeth, Queens. A 71,000-square-foot single-story warehouse with 6.5 acres of fleet parking and storage is currently extant at 56-19 Grand Avenue. The new structure will feature 21-foot ceiling heights and nine interior dock positions, and can accommodate a variety of vehicles and equipment. It is already available for lease, with occupancy starting in the second quarter of 2019.

420 Kent Avenue’s 857 New Apartments Nearing Full Completion Along Williamsburg’s East River Waterfront

420 Kent Avenue‘s triplet of glass-covered residential towers rising next to each other along the East River waterfront in Williamsburg are nearing completion, with facade installation nearly finished. Designed by ODA New York and developed by Spitzer Enterprises, recent photos by YIMBY followers show the site’s substantial progress. The development is located to the south of the Williamsburg Bridge, along Kent Avenue between Broadway and South 9th Street.

The Carlton Group Secures $47.5 Million in Construction Financing for Sea Breeze Tower in Coney Island

In an announcement from The Carlton Group, Managing Director Ruth Barone has successfully coordinated private financing of Seabreeze Tower in Coney Island. The $47.5 million financing package will facilitate construction of the 22-floor residential tower.

“Trinity Commons” Officially Tops-Out 424 Feet Above The Financial District at 74 Trinity Place

Steel construction of 74 Trinity Place has topped-out over the Financial District less than a year after work rose above ground level. The new 26-story, 424-foot-tall office building is designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, with Stephen B. Jacobs Group serving as executive architect. The developer is Trinity Real Estate. The total scope of the new tower is around 310,000 square feet, and offices start on the seventh floor. The last piece of steel went up last week in a topping out ceremony hosted by the developers.
