Permits have been filed for a twelve-story mixed-use building at 1661 Westchester Avenue, in the Soundview neighborhood of The Bronx. The site is two blocks away from the Morrison Avenue-Soundview subway station, serviced by the 6 trains. Not-for-profit Phipps Houses will be responsible for the development. Their mission has been to provide children, youth, and families that live in low-income neighborhoods with rental housing accompanied by support to help tenants thrive through comprehensive education and career programs, as well as facilitating access to community services.

Steel Begins Extruding for 30 Hudson Yards’ Sky-High Observation Deck

A new milestone has been reached for New York’s largest new development. The highest public outdoor observation deck in the Western Hemisphere has begun to take shape near the peak of 30 Hudson Yards. Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group have announced that construction has started for the outdoor terrace, which will be just one part of the multi-floor space that includes a 10,000 square foot restaurant, bar, and space for events programmed by the hospitality group rhubarb, who were also responsible for the Sky Garden lounge in London.

Gehry-Inspired Skyscraper at 11 Hoyt Street Revealed, Downtown Brooklyn

The redevelopment of Macy’s former footprint in Downtown Brooklyn is set to add a major new skyscraper to the Borough’s skyline. Renderings for 11 Hoyt Street are out, and it’s looking to make an impression. The 51-story condominium building is designed by the architecture and urban design firm Studio Gang, led by MacArthur Fellow Jeanne Gang. This project will be the Chicago-based firm’s first residential building in New York City.

Madison Realty Capital Applies for Rezoning at 69-02 Queens Boulevard, Elmhurst, Queens

The 29,000 square foot lot at 69-02 Queens Boulevard, in Elmhurst, Queens, is getting closer to the construction of a major new building. YIMBY last covered the project two years ago, after developers Madison Realty Capital purchased the first portion of the assemblage for $14.75 million. The firm has now submitted a proposal to the Department of City Planning to build two new structures, rising up 14 and 17 floors. This action would require the rezoning of several industrial lots.
