Construction is nearing the halfway mark on 223 West 46th Street, a 34-story Marriott SpringHill hotel in Times Square. Designed by Gene Kaufman Architects and developed by McSam Hotel Group, the project will yield 70,000 square feet and 200 guest rooms. The property is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, a short walk from the large stretch of pedestrian plazas and retail stores that line the crossroads of the world.

The final exterior touches are underway on 12 East 48th Street, a 367-foot-tall hotel tower in Midtown East. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Hidrock Realty, the property is set to house a 161-room, 125,000-square-foot Hilton Grand Vacation Hotel. DeSimone Consulting Engineers is the structural engineer, The Rinaldi Group is the general contractor, and IBA Consulting & Engineering, PLLC is the envelope consultant for the building, which is located between Madison Avenue and Fifth Avenue.

Demolition Progressing for SOM’s 62-Story Skyscraper at 12 West 57th Street in Midtown

Demolition is continuing at 12 West 57th Street in Midtown, the site of a 672-foot-tall skyscraper that comes in at number 21 on our countdown of the tallest projects underway in the city. The 52-story project is designed by Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill (SOM) and is being developed by Sheldon Solow of Solow Management Corp., who filed permits back in 2019. A preliminary rendering was revealed in early May, showing a slender black glass monolith rising behind a white glass and marbled stone podium. The development required the demolition of three low-rise structures spanning from 10 to 20 West 57th Street.

Designed by Rafael Vinoly and developed by MarriottRitz Carlton Hotels, and Flag Luxury Properties, the 40-story tower will yield 150,000 square feet and 250 guest rooms. The project is located at the intersection of Broadway and West 28th Street.

Radio Tower & Hotel Tops Out at 2420 Amsterdam Avenue in Washington Heights

Construction has topped out on the Radio Tower & Hotel, a 22-story building at 2420 Amsterdam Avenue in Washington Heights. Designed by MVRDV with executive architect Stonehill & Taylor and developed by Youngwoo & Associates, the building features a ceramic brick façade that breaks away into eight boxy volumes, each with its own distinct color. From top to bottom this includes a vibrant lime green and yellow that transition into subdued blue, red, orange, teal, and magenta materials. Overall, the building’s design draws inspiration from the diversity and vibrancy of the existing neighborhood and is described by MVRDV as a colorful welcome sign to upper Manhattan.
